Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

What I am after: I want to keep my current Hwy speed I have with my 4.10s. I want to slow down my current Granny gear for off road(SM465).
SO, My first thought is ORD's Doubler.
Sence my random posting looking for info on ORD's Doubler a few folks have said why not get an Atlas or a KluneV??
aaahhhhh, I don't know /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif
So anyone with an opion please chime in.... /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif
I have 1972 K5 w/350/SM465/Np205 currently
SHould I get:
-ORD's Doubler
-Atlas xfercase
-KluneV gear box
Oh and any comparisons on how much$$$ to complete any one of thease would be cool too. the amount of $$$ realy won't be the deciding factor as I am willing to PAY for what ever will work best for MY application..... /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I think the cool thing about the doubler is that most of the parts end up being standard GM stuff that's available in nearly any junkyard, should you manage to break something. How many places can you get a replacement gear for a Klune V or an Atlas t-case? 205's and 203's are ubiquitous, the others are pretty rare.

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

Good point!
Ok ORD is in the lead /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't want to spend 3K /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

Or, you could wait and get the 3:1 gear set that is in the works for the 205. Would probably end up being cheaper and no need for drive shaft length changes. I do like my doubler though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Oh no a 4th choice /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gifaaahhhhhhhhh
hmmm 3-1?? that would probly work out to be slow enough??
Who is doing that? /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

There's one other thing that I like about the doubler, at least over the Atlas. It lets you have 2:1 low range OR 4:1 low range. With the Atlas, you're either in high range or ultra-low range. I prefer the idea of having a selection in between, as really, 2:1 is OK most of the time. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

I have never wanted a higher low range, but have needed more gearing a few times. If I had the dough, I would throw a Klune in front of my Atlas, or maybe a Doubler. Doubler would probably be cheaper. Why not put in a Doubler and Atlas?

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

I've got an even BETTER idea......

Why not bolt an Atlas to a Klune to a Doubler and bolt the doubler DIRECTLY to the yoke of the rear axle!!! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Rear driveshaft would have to be pretty TINY by the time you got all those reduction boxes in there.....! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

Why not run 2 SM 465's back to back...then a 205?
351:1 crawl or 32 other ranges to play with./forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

OK, so now I have two 465s connected to a KluneV atached to a Doubler with the Atlas xfer case! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif ahhhh anyone know what kinda reduction that will give me?

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

LMAO!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Steve, I think you are having more fun posting the smilies rather than the question at hand of which setup to run! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well for my rig it feels like the Doubler is the way to go!
I'm 'working' on a few leads to get the xfer cases I need.

Now anyone know how to get my wife to let me take the $$$ out of our savings? Saying please and doing the dishes isn't working /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Get all buff and be her "pool boy" for a while...

465+465+203+205+Atlas+Klune+4.10's=5741:1 low range /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

Here's another!

You can get the doubler and later get a the 203 machined for 3.7:1 gears ($1000) from Wagoneer machine shop!

FYI: I think a th400/203/205 is the way to go for rock crawling. I think the sm465/203/205 isn't low enough yet for crawlin' slowly on the rocks. The granny - low - low isn't quite low enough. OR perhaps it is my crappy BFG ATs that can't get the traction I am looking for.
someday.. he he he

Re: Wich one?? Low Low range ORD\'s Doubler or??>>>>>>

I have been very happy with my Atlass. It has been awesome. Sometimes in the mud or sand it has been to low. Now I am adding the Klune, That will solve that problem. And it will give me the ultra low that I sometimes dcrave when crawling those obscene ledges. Tendancy around here seems to be to go with the doubler. I have heard many good things about it, it just didn't taste right for me
