Is there any good reason why I shouldn’t put spacers in the rear to match the front , really not a fan of the width difference. Opinions? Solutions?

I installed spacers, took them off and sent them back. I wasn't comfortable with them in any capacity. They weren't cheap ones either. Some here, put them on everything and never have issues. I couldn't get the potential negative outcomes I've read about out of my head, so off they came.

I will say the look they provided didn't really knock me out when installed.

My '05 Silverado came with some spacers on the rear when I bought it used. I didn't notice until it was time for new tires. It's fine, 8 lug, full float, doesn't bother me. On a lighter duty axle it might bother me.
On my K5 when I swapped to 1ton axles I used a later model rear, AAM 10.5. Matches the front width and is super strong without a spacer.
It all depends on what you have planned for the truck. You can get lots of widths different ways. What truck are you talking about, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1ton?

It’s a 77 k5 with a 12 bolt . I have just always gone back and forth about how to resolve

I think there is a lot of fear about wheel spacers. Nobody wants a wheel falling off. I currently know 2 people who have had a wheel come off a car, neither had spacers. They were fine, bruised ego as much as anything. Torque the spacers right and go for it. Spacers aren't ideal but they are a lot easier than axle swaps.

can't you run 10" wide wheels instead?

In hindsight, I feel in my situation they would have been fine. I torqued them down properly drove around rechecked, it's my own paranoia that I couldn't let go of. Your mileage may vary, however . The look for me, wasn't worth the worry, whether real or imagined.

the wheels need to be the same size, 4x4. But if you had different off set for the rear you could maybe get the visual effect you are looking for.

Keep in mind spacers put more leverage on the axle bearings. A 14bff can shrug that off, a 12b maybe a bit better then a 10b, but still going to require more inspections.

my semi float 14 bolt is actually a fraction of an inch WIDER than the rear 10 bolt it replaced. came from a 1997 Z71 if I remember correctly. doesn't bother me at all. still has a tighter turning radius than any vehicle I have ever owned.

(actually the 1998 S10 2 door jimmy probably did) - (oh yeah and the 1995 Z28 never once completed a U-turn the honest way... too easy to blip the throttle and spin it like a top AKA "the fun way")

But if you had different off set for the rear...

Keep in mind spacers put more leverage on the axle bearings.
You do realize running spacers and changing the wheel offset both change the leverage on the axle bearings in the exact same way by moving the center of the tire. The only difference is the load path on the spacer has more components to fail.

I actually think it looks a bit weird. I have a 14SF that pushed the wheels out to about the same width as the front, and the tires JUST don't fit in the wheel well. The fronts don't look the same. Stock wheels and tire width (10.5").

Minor annoyance, but it throws a lot more junk onto the side of the vehicle too.

Not noticed any difference in turning radius. Not saying it isn't there, just not a large enough difference if it is, for me to notice.

hmmm shouldnt be THAT wide... wonder if yours came out of a cargo van??? should have been the only ones that wide.

im running 35x12.50 tires on a stock steel ralleye wheel... 8 inch wide. outer edge of tire is approaching outside edge of fender... but is still inside. no problems with extra mud flinging on body or windows, and they tuck perfectly. i have something in the range of 3 feet of articulation right now and have not had to cut or modify the rear fenders at all. no tire rubbing. (the front with a stock 10 bolt and the same tires/ wheels was a different story -trimming happened)

Did not know those wheels could fit on a 15x8 wheel..

So 35x12.5 should fit on a 15x8 wheel as well correct?

well, the contact patch on the ground may not be 100 percent optimal, but ive not had a reason to switch wheels yet. Photos are probably mixed tires on the same wheels over the years.
I've had 33x12.50 Bridgestone duelers , 35x12.50 bfg all terrain, and now Big-O "extreme something all terrain sorta/maybe" in 35x12.50 all on the same wheels (well, I mean same type - not exact same wheels... started with 6 or 7 and crunched one. and one was stolen... tire blew on freeway one time and the 605 freeway chewed up another... but they were all the same 15x8)

I would start with a 9-10 inch wide wheel if i were starting from scratch. might start with a 17 inch rim diameter too... would have to think about that though.

Yeah, it's not that wide, +1.5" on either side or whatever. But dang near looks like the 12.5's in the above pics. In any case, it's just a minor annoyance. I should look at bone stock trucks with the 31x10.5s and see if they also now seem odd to me.

With the body curve under, some part of the tire is always going to stick out...it just seems the 14SF pushed it out enough that it's more noticeable, and of course higher up the wheel well.
