Will '71 K5 15" Rally Rims fit on a '90 K5? EDIT: Got them, they are getting redone

I'm going to go buy some rims tomorrow. The seller says they were from a 71 K5. They are 6 bolt on 5.5".

The inside measurement of the hub opening is 3 1/2" , and from the top of the hub opening flange to the outer rim edge is about 4 3/4 inches.

So I'm thinking it should fit and I'm going to pick them up.

Just make sure the wheel will fit over your front calipers.i had a spare non rally wheel from 70 drum brake blazer.it would work on the back ,cleared the drum.the one time I got a front flat i found out it was dished different and would not go on far enough to fit flush with the hub.it got stuck on the caliper.

They are probably originally from a newer vehicle. I don't think they made the "Rally" wheels yet in 1971.

These are the ones I'm getting:

Probably pick them up later on today. He has 3 beauty rings to go with it, all for $120! :yikes:

Best way to repaint? I want to go with the factory look

Yeah according to the sales brochures rally wheels weren't available until 1974 so those should be the oldest they would be. Here's the thread where I redid my wheels. They weren't rally because I wanted the hubcaps but the same process applies.

I just got mine sandblasted and took them to Earl Scheib to do an etching primer and GM Argent paint color.

Don't forget your LMC truck replacement center caps.

You'll be OEM bling in no time.

Around here they don't last at $50 each rim. I know on ebay you can find a nice set for $400 and they are usually complete. But then you have to pay shipping..

I went in to the local wheel shop and they figure to sandblast the rims, paint the inside a protective black, and paint the outside factory GM silver, it would run about $300. Not sure if I want to go that far quite yet. We'll see.

That a good price for those, way back in the 90`s 400.00 was a normal price, in B.C. A good deal was 200.00

Seen a set not long ago for a 100.00, but they were to far away... had to work that weekend.:doah:

I`d just spray paint them gm argent grey. the rings and caps cover most of them anyway.

Wow, that's pretty high. It was a few years ago but here's how mine broke down for the 4 wheels.

Sandblasting (some local sandblaster): $50
Paint (rim area and front) etching primer and GM argent: $100
Paint (Rustoleum rattle can) flat black 3 coats: ~$15 (masked and painted myself)

The Earl Scheib paint job was ok. It definitely wasn't show quality but I knew that going in and they were just wheels after all. Oh, and if you mask and paint the backs by yourself don't forget to cover up the lug holes :).

Or you can do it yourself. You can rattle can all of that stuff. Duplicolor and VHT makes colors that are almost a direct match. Craig Artzner used VHT's GM Rally Wheel Argent Silver for his grille. I'll probably do it this way next time.

I'd definitely get them sandblasted or media blasted though. It'll be a PITA to get all of that red off of there.

Well I picked them up. Really good guy. He has a red '67 chevy c10 custom that he used to run with the rims on but he picked up a nicer chrome set.

I can't get over how much heavier they are compared to my other two sets. I've never had a blazer with the rallys..

I'm going to shop around for a decent sandblast job and I could probably just spray them myself and save a few $$

Can anyone recommend a better source for beauty rings? LMC is a bit pricey, but if I save on the respray then I'll probably just put in an order with them

Well I took them in to the local wheel shop. They found that one of the rims was also bent a bit. So, I'm going to have them do them all plus a spare rally rim that I had as well.

-5 rims sandblast
-Repair of one bent rim
-Paint GM argent silver on the outside with protective coating
-Inside black protective paint

Not going to be cheap. But will be done right.
Still have to order beauty rings & caps (they have to be as nice as the rims now :doah: ) Probably will go with LMC.

Will post up when I get them back (could be a week or two)

Your going to cringe when you have the nice painted wheels and hear/see it being scratched off by the beauty rings metal clips...I know I did.

cant wait to see them
