Will a D70 from a \'78 Dodge pickup work on my K5

At the junkyard yesterday I saw a Dodge utility bed pickup wit ha SRW D70 in it. I donno what gears it has, or the spline count but I thought I'd come to CK5 and ask if I should be going back to take another look at it /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Large 6 lug pattern or standard 8 lug?

Anything can be made to fit our trucks. I would make sure the WMS to WMS is the same or close to what the GM axles are. 67" up to 69" is ideal so it doesnt get wider than the front axle. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Other than the measurements, just a matter of locating the shock mounts and spring perches to fit your rig. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Since it is from a late seventy's Dodge axle it more than likely will be a 1-1/2" 35 spline "B" series Dana 70 . It should make a nice choice as far as gear and parts availability .
Get the B.O.M. number and post it - I am sure several folks here will be able to tell Ya what it came with originally .

Closed knuckle or open knuckle? I thought all 70 fronts were closed knuckle.

I have one from a dodge and about that same vintage in the rear of my Blazer. You'll have to move the spring perches and shock mounts other than that I love it. I'm running 5.86's with it welded and disc brakes. Have never had a problem with it. But be sure to run the numbers so you know what it is and what parts you need to buy for it. As an example dana 70's have different gear offsets... ask me how I know. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
