Will Gm ever bring back sfa???

IFS sucks ass. Buy a dang caddy if you want coosh, I want a front end that isn't a piece of crap... unecessarily complicated and extremely expensive to modify/fix. Assuming they don't bring back a SFA, Im never EVER going to buy a GM truck.

Ya I'm just gonna tow my blazer with it. So no modifying lifting or heavy wheeling. Just driving. Plus if it breaks that is what a warrenty is for. I don't have to fix it. This rig is 100% "Bought Not Built" complete opposite of my K5 /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I am when I win the lottery , then I will buy all the Dana 60's I can , swap one in my new truck for my driver , restore my Blazer and wipe with diapers at car shows , and sell off the remaining Dana 60's for what they should be worth ( 100 bucks each )

if I won the lottery, I'd prolly buy a 1-ton dodge with the '600' cummins.

I doubt you will ever see GM offer a SFA again in the trucks. Why would they go to the trouble of redesigning the truck when it fills the need of 99% of the people who actually buy these trucks new??? I've seen tons of GM IFS trucks used by farmers and construction crews with no IFS issues. Now granted they aren't doing hardcore wheelin' but these guys use 4wd a lot more than most people.

Sure, put big tires and go wheelin' with them and they will break..........but so will a 10-bolt, Dana 44, or anything short of a Dana 60.

IFS is fine for a DD. My old 97 Z71 rode really nice and handled itself fine offroad. The entire front suspension went 220000 miles before it "needed" any attention (and that was just because my sister didnt like the way it steered /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif). I have driven the piss out of my Z71 on and offroad with no complaints, it handles downright nicely at ~100 MPH (damn governer /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif) on pothole filled backass country roads. I think people forget the truck manufacturers dont put out a product intending for people to modify it. I'll take a IFS Chevy for a DD anyday.

i hate my 98 k3500's ride! it rides like a brick. it's upper A-arm bushing are shot and rattle and sqeek with every little bump in the road, and this is with only 100K on it. i've driven older POS's with a SFA that ride like a caddy compaired to my 98 k3000. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Is it a 3500 regular cab, 4wd, short bed?

Without the extra weight and length of a long bed, or a crew, the 3500 will ride like a brick. That is until you drop 4000 lbs of cargo in the back, and add a 10,000 lb trailer. Then you get a cushy ride!

Your older SFA probably has some nice cushy worn out leaf springs, and some soft shocks.

A new half ton ifs burb sure is cushy. THen again, its not using leafs in the back, its got coils.

There is no such thing as a 1 ton, regular cab, short bed.

Well, my K10 is, but that's not the point. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

when chevy went IFS, it was like I was gutted... all my 'blood' done run out. I'd definitely go dodge, even if I had a silly amount of $ and could afford to take an '04 chebby and put a D60 under it. They just peeved me off to much to support em anymore. Say what you want about Dodge, they have maintained the SFA, Cummins engines freakin rock... and the new Powerwagon? good lord. There is a company thats saying "ya know what, 95% of customers dont need/want/use a rig with REAL offroad capability... but that 5% is still a decent amount of potential customers..." Thats the kinda thinking I like to see in a truck-making company.

it's a k3500 SRW crewcab with a stake body. and it rides like crap.

i can't wait to get my wife a new car next year so i can take her lil s10 and park the 3500.

i live in the city and the route i take to work is nothing but pot holes and manhole covers that are 2" lower than the road level /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif.

sometimes i wish i had a cushy highway drive to work but then it would take me 2 hours to get to work insted of 15 mins /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I've been wishing GM took their GMC line and truly made them "Professional Grade". Scrap the IFS and go SFA and coils. It'd probably cost them another $3500 to build the truck but I think they could get the money back out of them. Their "fleet" line would have a real truck in it. People would actually buy GM vehicles for their fleet vehicles instead of buying SuperDutys. In the fullsize truck fleet market, GM is getting their asses handed to them.

Farmers rarely buy GM trucks if they want 4wd and 1 ton. They often buy them if they want 2wd.

GM also doesn't have nearly as many "delete" options as ford. You can get a strip model F350 for a lot cheaper than a "strip model" K3500.

P.S. The new '05 superduty is a badass truck, they finally junked the leafs and went coils and 5 link up front, kind of like the dodges and early 78-79 f150's.

[/ QUOTE ]

Uh, i guess you havet actually seen a ford link suspension. They do not, nor have they ever had a 5-link. They use Radius arms, and the only thing similar to the dodge suspension is the fact that they use coils and have a trac bar.
