Will my insurance company total my truck? *Not getting totaled!*

When we did it, I talked to the other drivers adjuster about it. He gave me an additional $1200 after the repair was completed.

also I might be looking at drive shaft and rear of tranny/tcase incause it come up in and kissed it at bottom out .

how do they plan to fix the box ?

I planned to look at the driveshaft/t-case next time I see it.

He said on the phone that they were going to get a new bed, but I was in class and told him I'd call him back. I was going to ask more about the bed then, but when I called he was out to lunch.

Ok, just talked to the collision guy. He confirmed that I'm getting a 100% brand new bed, along with front and rear bumpers, frame rails, and the misc stuff to put it together. Since I had a spray in bed liner they're also going to spray another bed liner in it. He also told me it's all coming from the Chevy dealer down the street, so none of its aftermarket stuff.

That's pretty epic given the year of the vehicle. Good deal!

That is a good point, and an often missed damage area--seen many trucks get the body and frame fixed, then later on the owner discovers fluids leaking from a crack in a transmission or transfer case,or the drive shaft was kinked slightly and no one notices it right away..I bet many crashed vehicles rarely get "test driven" at highway speeds for long,if at all,and once the owner signs off on the repairs,it'll be a hassle to get any further repairs made..

Sorry your truck got hit--lucky you weren't injured bad, glad you weren't--that looks like a pretty good whack it took--surprised the air bags did not deploy--if they did I bet that would have totaled it,they aren't cheap, even used ones..

So they cutting in/welding a new section of rear frame on both sides I guess? Also... VERY important, before you sign off on the repairs go for a good long test drive (city/highway etc), check all gears etc just as others stated.

My van got whacked from behind at a red light by a chevy citation years ago--it didn't appear to do much damage to it,just bent up the bumper some, there was a heavy plate welded to it someone added for a trailer hitch ball, that took most of the hit..the citation looked totaled..
It shoved the van into the intersection, and I was lucky oncoming cars didn't T bone it..:eek1:

I was able to drive it away, and I was on my way to a concert nearly 70 miles away, and it made the trip there and back without incident, and appeared to drive and handle "normally"..

When the adjuster came to look at my van,he didn't really crawl under it and look it over thouroghly, and just said "eh,its got some rust, and the rails are not tweaked--he wrote up an estimate for 600 bucks, and I was not unhappy with that, especially since I paid only 500 for it a few years earlier..

About a year later I decided to drive the van to Nashville TN,which is 1100 miles from where I live...while making the long journey,I started hearing a loud clunking while going around sharp corners or traffic rotaries, and figured maybe a U-joint was going out..I bought two just to have with me in case that was the case...

Then I started hearing a creaking groan while going around corners,or hitting bumps on the drivers side...and sometimes it felt a little squirrely too..
I did my best to ignore those disturbing noises, and it made the trip with no breakdowns..

But a few months later, that clunking around corners was getting louder,so was the creaking groan...closer inspection one day while changing a flat tire, revealed the drivers side leaf spring eye on the forward end of the spring ,had cracked where the bushing goes, and the top half of it was missing !..the weight of the van was the only thing keeping the end of the spring in place..
..(I "fixed" it by forming a thick piece of flat stock around the spring eye and clamping it in place--its still that way,but I took the van off the road shortly after I made that temporary fix)..

Another thing that started to show up was the transmission would hang up in first gear and refuse to upshift..a friend diagnosed it as the govenor gear being "hogged out",it was made of nylon...so far a used one I threw in it has worked great--perhaps it got tweaked when it got rear ended ?...

Also I noticed if I pulled in and out on the rear tire,I could feel slop in the axle, and hear that disturbing "clunk" it made going around corners..
I pulled the diff cover off,and found it full of glitter, and saw the side gears had chewed up the diff case and was probably on its last legs..

I put a used rear end in it from a salvage yard--I dont know if the accident caused that,or if it was just "normal" wear,I heard a lot of 10 bolts failed in that manner...

Bottom line is you really have to look long and hard to find hidden damage sometimes...since I had signed off on the insurance claim long ago,I had to fix it myself and pay for the parts...

Well oddly enough, I just got rear ended in my 06 1500, EC SB. Was pulling a small untility trailer, the F-tard was texting, didn't see me slowing down, and locked em up too late. Wrecked the coupler on the trailer, but oddly enough the rest of the trailer is undamaged. My receiver hitch is destroyed, and the bumper bent way down. But hopefully that's the extent of the damage.

Is your frame bent were mine was? If so, at least there's the option to fix it. The collision shop said that that repair is so common that my local gm dealer keeps those rear frame portions in stock.

And just so everyone knows what the estimate was to fix it, it's $6,337.75

meh, base/clear blend stuff is easy peezy.. you'd NEVER know it was hit if I did it...

When I damaged mine on some ice, I picked the truck up from the shop. Walked the manager out to it and asked if their painter was color blind. It was white. The repaint was a completely different white. :doah:

Then their lot guy ran the right side down a post after he backed it into a wall, with the tailegate down.

try being a boat guy..... :pimp:

customer... "oh, it's just white"

yeah, ok, pal.... do you have ANY clue how many variations of white there can be? :haha:

I know there's a lot of different variations in white, but they at least have the factory paint code to use as a starting point.
