i own a 79 C20 standard cab long bed. i am planning a conversion from 2wd to 4wd. now, i do not want to hear people post " just sell the truck and buy a 4x4 and go from there". It is not going to happen. the truck has lived its entire life in las vegas, i got it from the original owner and is 100% rust free. i can get into this truck and drive anywhere. as long as i can afford to put fuel into the dual 20 gal tanks. so, that being said, i need to get an axle under the front end. i was going to get the B52 front spring hangers from DIY4x.com, slap some leaf springs, figure out a crossover stering set up and figure out the rear hangers. but i think that the ORD front coil over suspension system would be a much better way to go.(more money but more of what i am looking for than the leafsprings)

question is..... will it fit my rig? will the ORD coil spring suspension fit the frame of my truck?
since the links looks like they attach to the frame near the rear of the springs would mount. that and the cross memeber for the panhard bar and the shock hoops are the only things attached to the frame. i know that the crossmember will have to be replaced and i'm fine with any fabrication work that needs to be done. i have welders and a tube bender.
having the coilover front suspension would be right up my ally because i could tune the shocks for the higher speed desert driving i would be doing with the truck. think 4wd prerunner and not rock crawler (but being able to do both would be epic). but i will be doing more highway driving and powerline roads than bashing rocks. i am planning on keeping the 14bolt rear axle and figuring out that suspension after the front gets worked out. i also plan on running 35-37 tires and swaping in a overdrive automatic transmission. this is not an everyday driver and i want to build a truck to haul gear out for remote camping.

No problem at all doing that to a 2WD. The engine crossmember has to change (we make those), but that's pretty much it. Plus you already have the 2WD steering box for crossover steering :pimp:
