How would a person engege/release the hub?

That is not a warn winch. That is a Ramsey RE12000 worm drive winch.

Winch might be mounted upside down with the lever pointing to the ground. Have seen several people do it before.

You can also rotate the handle housing on most warns to change the location.

Check out the picture. That is a Ramsey hidden mount kit with an RE series winch. There is no mistaking it. The motor and worm gear are visible.

The warn M12000 has the motor inline and its a planetary winch...
