I have a 1991 Jimmy and want to install a winch. Is there a mounting kit or bumper kit available somewhere? While I'm at it, where is a good source of aftermarket stuff for K5s?

Look in the vendor section of this forum. There are many vendors here that make bumpers and parts for K5s.

Can't see the photos. This is a frustrating site. I suppose a lot of people are driven away by limited access.

they're just gonna tell you to pay the money for full membership and that it is worth it. its a decision you have to make.

Yeah. It is well worth the 25 bucks.I ponied up and have had no regrets.
You could spend days on end looking at trucks with all sorts of bumpers and winches. The money you save by taking the advice of the knowledgeable men and women on this site will more than cover the membership fee.:D

being a former member, i'll vouch for that, its a heck of alot better than $25 worth of magizines, at todays prices, thats ...what?...5 mags? well worth it, can't wait to get my membership back!

A frustrating site? So, let me get this straight. You just bought a K5 and want to get a winch to put under it, right? Let's see, you are going to spend $500-$700 on a used 9500# winch, $30-$100 in parts, labor and accessories to mount and hook it up and you won't pony up an additional $25 for a membership to gain an infinite amount of knowledge to do what you like to do to your rig, wheel it, work on it and wheel it some more. Nothing in life that is worth a crap is free. Pony up the coin and and learn more than you could ever need to know about your rig or like you said, drive yourself away because of limited access.

BigBlazenman,
I suppose I've become accustomed to sites that are completely free (operational budgets paid for by donations and advertisement [which this site seems to have plenty]). If the fee was a flat $25, I would pay. But annually? Seems a little over the top. Just my opinion. I'll be satisfied relegated to the garage.

I am indeed. However, the fees will disuade membership and limit your community. There are some good ideas out there that you are excluding!

man, big blazn, that sounds kinda harsh, but your right, the $25 a year membership is well worth the investment, like on the tech w/pictures, and see'in pics of things people have built something, where a pic is worth 10,000 words b/c what they have written is hard to imagine and the pics combined whith there writing, you can understand exactly what they are saying,.. when you can see a pic of what they are describing makes it easier to copy-cat too :)

i hopefully payin my $25 today(fingers crossed) can't wait to get back in the brotherhood for their knowledge, not to mention the discounts from the vendors. i hope to get my member badge back today even tho originally i joined for the search option, which now is available to just registered users, i still want my membership so i can post in the tool shed and the classifieds and pm's to other members,

like i stated...i'd rather have a membership here than a yrs subscription to any of the rags, which you have to pay yearly also...in my mind, its just no comparision! theres virtually unlimited knowledge here and i am proud i was a payin member and will be again real soon!

Sometimes life is harsh. I, and I'd imagine many other members who have ponyed up the $25 feel the same way. The part that burns me the most is that people feel the $25 is too much money to spend and that it should be a free site. If these Jackholes would just spend one weekend during one month not buying beer, fast food and crap they would have the $25 to put towards a memebership. I guess it's a matter of priorities.

With a membership the advertisements are much less intrusive. I would pay the $25 just to have the smaller ads. That being said, there is a wealth of knowledge in the Garage for free. Your choice.

Well said.

The other sites are, at times much slower, have pop-up ads, and are loaded with ... ummmm... how can I put this without offending someone... asshats.

Membership has its privileges.

I take no offense from any of these comments. You all make valid, cogent arguments. As Bigblazing wrote, I'm just a cheap bastard and I know it. I enjoyed the discussion. I'm enjoying my Jimmy too. I put manual locking hubs on today.

I'm a paid member and take no offense to Hubnut's comments. The comment about limiting membership due to the $25 fee...I don't agree with that. There are MANY paying members on this site, and the amount of info for us GM vehicle owners is astounding. Well, OK, amybe some people would look for other sites, but big whoop. :haha:

I went a year or so without paying and know what Hubnut means about getting info for free. It's a personal choice to pay or not. The day I started paying was the day I spent hours on this site looking at project photos on the various forums, and I knew I made the right choice paying for membership.

Who cares if your a cheap bastard....welcome to the site. Now take another look at post #8 by Tdog1 and check out all the cool products offered by those companies.

Actually it's a matter of choice. There is no need to bash anybody or call them a$$holes for making the choice not to join.

I think it's been well worth the $25! I have saved about $1000 or so on my build due to deals I have found on here. The sheer amount of knowledge and willingness to share that knowledge on here is awesome too!

That having been said, there's tons of great vendors on here that make winch bumpers! Also, there's great write ups to make your own! Or, if ya can't find one ya like and ya can't build your own, I'm sure there's guys on here that can point ya in the direction of somebody that can build ya a custom one! Whatever way, there's no shortage of options!

Vendors: DPI, DIY4X, ORD, Blazen offroad, etc!
