Winch question...

I've been looking at winches and I'm wondering if an 8000lb Ramsey is enough for a K5. I heard that 1 1/2 times the weight of the truck would do it, and that's about the size of the winch's power. I also know about using a pulley as a doubler for the line. Let me know what you guys think...

I have a friend that has an 8000 warn and he can and has pulled him self to hell and back. But I dont have one yet I wont to get a warn 9500ix and put it on a resiver mount.

i'd recommend a 9000 or a 10000
leave the 8000 for the jeeps

Keep this in mind. The winches are rated at the last wrap on the drum. What are you going to do if your only 20' away from your anchor point and quite stuck? Well your stuck. Call either my self or one of the others with a 95i or shawn and his 12000.

actually I would use a warn the warrenty and help is great compared to what ive heard about ramsey .

Actually, I'd use a snatch block in that situation.

On another note, what do yall guys have against superwinch? I have an opportunity to pick up that line at work. They seem to be built well and their load ratings are more real than the competition. (working load instead of stall speed)

It sounds like everyone agrees that "more is better" in this situation. That is probably true, but hear me out. I read a story once about a guy with a Heep that thought "more is better" and he put something like a 9,000 lb winch on it. A few months later when he was trying to winch somebody out, he ended up pulling the frame apart. He said if he would've stuck with a smaller winch, it never would have damaged his truck. I doubt a 10k or 12k winch would damage a Blazer like this, but I'd steer clear of hooking up a 20k PTO winch just because it was huge.

As far as Superwinch, I think they look like poor quality.

As far as the guy who ripped his chassis apart. You should really only use your winch on either your self OR smaller vehicles. If you try and pull something larger than what your chassis can support ofcourse you are going to destroy your truck.

Keep in mind, these chassis were never designed with a winch in mind. If they were, they would be factory options.
