Winch to control rear axle with air shocks

I am finishing up my rig and think I would like a winch to control the rear end from unloading instead of a limiting strap. I was thinking about using a 2500 pound ATV winch but a friend tells me that I need a hoist winch because of it's better braking system. I am having a hard time finding a 12 volt hoist winch that is weatherproof.

I realize this is a bit out of the norm but if anyone has any helpfull info I would appreciate it.

I would use a center limit strap myself, I have the coilovers and don't ever feel like I need a rear strap or winch.
I use my winch on the front all of the time, it works well.

Use the atv winch if you are going to try it. I think that is all the comp guys used for years.

I might try that first. A $10 piece of log chain might work, and look ghetto. Win-win for me.
