My Warn xd9000i winch won't free spool.
I try to twist the knob 180* from pointing forewards to pointing backwards, but it gets tight at almost 90*, and i can't twist the knob any more..
I don't want to try and force it and hurt the mechanisim, but i'm almost at that point..
I've tried winching in and out while i try to twist the knob and its still just really tight and i can't spin it around to freespool for some reason now???

I know this has happened to someone here... Help me out..

Same thing happened to me with my Ebay winch. Warn M12000. It had been dropped (I assume) during shipping, and pushed the little lever down into the housing. It's alittle complicated to expalin the internals, but it jacked up the housing enough that I had to order a new one. It came with the lever installed and ready to go. All I had to do was remove the old housing and bolt the new one on. I think it was like $130...which wasn't bad cause I only paid $450 for the winch itself. :)

I don't think you could mess up the mechanism in there....Not much that could get messed up. I'd take it apart and look at it. Thats hwo I figured out what was wrong with mine.

Once I let the cable spool up too big on one spot and the same thing happened. It put a bind on the lever. The way I fixed it was to winch in until it stopped then put your hand on the lever and push the winch out button for a quick second, while turning the lever at the same time.

sandawg had that prob, had to take it apart. it was rusty and had to clean and lube it up. works fine now

Yep that is what we did now its smooooove:D . It looks like we lost a seal and got water in the clutch housing. The steel clutch and aluminum housing do not act well together when wet.:(
