Has anyone bought a winch from ebay?

Some of them have good prices compared to 4wp, and some have worst. I'm wanting to get a winch soon for my first off-road upgrade :haha:
Thinking about either a 8000,9000,9500 or 12000 pulling winch. Whatever one comes soonest I guess.

Leaning towards Warn.

How is 4WP for dealing with? They have really good prices on some winches compared to the manufactorer recommend price...

thanks

Hard to go wrong.

The prob with buying a winch is shipping.Heavy suckers. I took a $100 cookie on mine & bought it at a local shop. Delivery was closer to 120.

Mine is a Warn 12K

I bought a Warn 8274 from Ebay, got it for $550 shipped. I turned it around and sold it for $750.

As for 4 wheel parts, I like them at there Seattle store (actually Lynnwood, Wa.)
have been some of the best in the way of answering questions, and helpful in the parts department. None the less a great place to buy a winch..

There isn't a 4x4 shop near me that sells this stuff. So I have to get it shipped.

Although 4wp might have better shipping prices?

I just bought an 8274 off of ebay with everything (cable, hook, manual, remote, cover, and fairlead) for $620 shipped. Good stuff man. There's one on Pirate right now with synthetic line for $750+shipping. If you want a really good deal, buy one that needs to be rebuilt, they go for cheap and from what I've heard you can get them running very well with a very minimal investment.

Also, FWIW, I've heard huge horror stories about 4wp but have never personally had a problem with them.

yeah 8274's are prretty easy to fix up as I have heard.
I have the 8074 or whatever it is, but it doesn't have free spool so I don't really want it... wheeling alone is hard when you have to manually spool it out..

Yeah, the old Bellview (sp? I think I'm way off) winches are basically granddaddy 8274's. I think it's hard to screw up if you buy something Warn.

I got my Warn M12000 from Ebay for $450. It was missing a few things though. Needed the solinoid/control pack, a remote and the entire end of the housing where the freespool lever is. The lever had been broken and messed up the housing. In the end I think I have bout $750 into it. Not counting the synthetic rope of course. 125' of 3/8" Amsteel Blue and a hook= $250 shipped. :eek1:

Joe, was that an easy fix besides the extra money? or would you have rather bought it in better condition for a bit more money?

Look on ebay for Trailblazers. I looked for several weeks and their price was the best I found on a new unit. I got a warn 9000 for 734 shipped. I wanted one with the seperate controll pack because of the mounting location.
If you want the BEST price....... Look around for a 4x4 show. A buddy went to a local one and on the last day of the show when the warn guys were about to pack up he got a new 8000 for 350.00. If he had 500.00 he would have gotten the 12000. I guess they didn't want to take em back????

They were all easy fixes. Just bolt on stuff. I'm glad I bought it like that...Saving $300+ is always good. :D

I've got 5-6 8274's from ebay rebuilt them and sold them for profit. The one on my blazer now came from ebay for 250.00

wow...do some deals like that just pop up?
I'll be looking

Yup all the time. If they are broke it seems not many people want them. They are super easy to work on. Don't think twice about buying on not working as long as the case is not cracked you are usually ok to go. The one on my current K5 had broken teeth on the cam so the motor spun but no movement. 100.00 later it was rocking and rollin :D

Alright awesome...always could use a project like that. I will be on the lookout for fixable ones then. Thanks.
