winches

The military (government in general) uses the product that passes there test that is the cheapest. So as long as the Warn passed the Military's test and Mile Marker got the contract then Warn must not have been the cheapest. I don't have to be privy to the bid to know that the Milemarker was the cheapest winch manufacturer that bid and passed the test.

I think there is a lot more to who gets a contract then that
if it were only that simple and honest

I am sure there are other factors that are considered but price is definitly a large factor on what gets bought. Politics and God knows what else are involved but it comes down to price for the gov't just like it does to most people in every day life.

Don't want to start an arguement, but I think the military and what they buy is based on location. Cause I do know that Warn still builds and ships a crap load of the military winches a month for them.

Last I knew, it was Mile Marker's hydraulic winches that the Military was switching to. In fact, just about anybody that requires a winch has either switched to hydraulic or still use PTO. Even Warn's "Industrial" winches are only designed for intermittent use.

If you search the internet, there are tons of organizations that have switched to Mile Marker's hydraulic winches.

If you upgrade the plumbing and valves in a Mile Marker's hydraulic system you can get them to go mighty fast. Otherwise, they go at the speed of a slow Warn (M12000, M15000).

You can't really compare an electric winch to a hydraulic winch anyway. The only benefit that the electric winch has over the hydraulic one is that it can operate without the motor running. Other than that, the electric winch is pathetic in comparison.

If it came down to just price after meeting the requirements I can guarantee you that Warn would've found a way to outbid Mile Marker. Furthermore, just because it cost more doesn't mean it is better. If it did, you'd have a Nissan Pathfinder instead of a K5.

If I had a lot fo cash I'd have an gas/hydralic winch, a nice sized hydraulic pump running on a small gas motor, like a lawnmower. I think DeMartini mentioned it to me once.
