Well I am trying to figure out how to remount my windstar fans because the factory plastic housing is very brittle and is starting to fall apart. I just searched and the only non stock housing mount options I saw was the one Ryoken built for his.

Has anyone done anything out of sheetmetal or maybe something very simple? Thanks

Mine for the LSx fans is somewhat simple, I was afraid of the housing breaking so I mounted it like GM did. Essentially there are U shaped brackets (with fairly dense foam as a cushion) that the housing sits in. Haven't had it break yet, but I don't wheel hard.

The motors aren't something you can mount by themselves easily, outside of the shroud, are they?

If the shroud is breaking though, it sounds like it's not mounted "correctly". Even brittle it shouldn't see enough load to break. :(

Its not really breaking how its mounted now. It was cracked when I got it and its cracked right where one of my top mounts is. If I knew how to work fiberglass I would just build one like ryoken did, but I have never done any fiberglass work before. I have to have a couple things made for me at the local sheetmetal shop anyway, so I was thinking about seeing what they can do for me.

Oh yeah once the plastic is cracked, pretty hard to keep it together.

Someone made a metal shroud for their fans, can't recall who it was though. I don't know how the Windstar shroud is, but the GM setups use a rubber "flapper" in a couple of spots to allow more air to blow through while moving, but stay sealed when the fans are on. I'd probably look to replicate that if possible. Should be pretty easy with sheetmetal.

cool thanks I will have to do some more searching around after I get off work.

I think mrk5 somehow modified his stock fan shroud to hold the fans. I haven't seen it, though. Maybe he'll chime in with some pics. :D

Several years ago I mounted two 14" perma cool fans on a 1/8" aluminum plate, and mounted them to the top and bottom frame of a chevy cross flow radiator. The fans were wired to two 30A relays and controlled with a an adjustable temperature ( 180 - 220 ) sensor that used a sensor bulb in the upper radiator hose. It has worked flawless for years.
