Winters Sidewinder 4L80e shift cable too long

Nice! And it goes into all gears now?

I'm gonna get that little kit ordered so I can finally get my shifter working properly. Thanks for the follow up! :waytogo:

Yes it goes in all the gears like it should. The geometry is now correct so everything lines up. I used the same length from the Winters arm to figure out where to tighten the ball mount.

Freaking awesome! Gonna order that kit now. Thanks!

@Shawn I installed that summit racing kit arm on my tranny just like you did. I now can at least get my tranny in all gears, including 1st gear. I'm still not very happy with how the gear indents on the tranny line up with the gates on the actual shifter, but it's not horrible now. I just have it adjusted that Park, Neutral, Reverse, 4th, and 3rd line up real good with the shifter gates. 2nd and 1st gears kinda mesh into one gate, but I can pretty easily get it into 1st, and from 1st to 2nd without much trouble. So I'm calling it a victory at this point. I may play with the adjustments more later on down the road, but as of right now, I'm happy I can at least get it in all gears.

I still think it's ridiculous that Winters hasn't looked at this and realized their 4l80e shifter doesn't work properly. We all spend enough on these dang shifters, they should work pretty freaking good out of the box and shouldn't require us having to source down additional parts to get them to work properly. Oh well I guess

Interesting. Mine lines up so much better now since I did the CPP arm. So it was the same CPP part number you got right? If you have some time, maybe try to play with a longer or shorter throw on the shifter arm to see if it makes any difference. Also, I noticed its better to put the trans in reverse and shifter in reverse when adjusting the cable to that exact spot. I do agree its ridiculous that Winters does not provide 2 arms for each type of transmission rod. Dean @ Winters was thankful for the info and will incorporate the information in the new instructions but it should come with the shifter itself when paying that kind of money for one.

Yeah, same part number. I do think some more adjustments should help

I know its a given but just letting others know that any home made extender should be removed and the 2 hole bracket needs to fit in the ridges on the shifter cable. Should look like this with the pivot ball on the outside, not the inside. I think I had to flip my arm around so the ball mount can be mounted like below.

Yeah, that's exactly how I had to install mine too. I also think I originally had it on backwards and realized something was off, then flipped the arm around and it was good
