Watch for the muzzleflash!
Pulled my column and replaced the blinker assembly and chase down some burned up wires. Well I need to replace a few that go all the way to the fuse block.
Since my search ability sucks...

How do I remove the block far enough to get it apart.:doah:I unscrewed it from the firewall but without having a decent diagram or a write up to read, I don't know how this thing comes apart.:dunno:

I think it used to be brown:doah:This is from one of the plugs that goes into the top of the column about half way down.
I can trace this burned up wire all the way behind the fuse block.View attachment 123401

Its a 74 blazer fuse block. Anybody?? How do you sePerate the two sides of the fuse block with the short wires in between? I need to take them apart so I can start replacing burnt wires but there is no room to tell how they come apart and too many wires to see where they all go back to if I just start pulling them loose.:dunno::popcorn:
This thing is f@&(3) up.... Help!

Bump to the top for you fumes. Do you have any more pics of the problem?

1 wire at a time?:dunno:

There are 2 brown w/ white stripe wires that are burnt in half one goes to the column and the other goes to the fuse block, the other ends go into the loom in the dash. I have the block apart now so I can see everything. Of course I had to take the dash and instrement panel off to access and pull all the wires out. Now I just need to find out what wires they are and find out why they burned up.
I'll try and get a better pic tomorrow now that it's all out in the open

The factory wiring diagrams are made for guys with younger eyes. :doah:

Looks like it's the circuit for the 10A fuse in the bottom left, "ACC", and includes the yellow wire for the radio.

Anyway, I fink you're after circuit #141, aka "20-BRN/W-141", meaning it's a mid-sized wire (it's not gauge, it's some kind of diameter measurement, so a "20" is bigger than as "12"), brown in color with a white stripe or tag, and is circuit #141 on that junction box on the firewall.

I can scan these, but as they're multiple pages I donno how you'd fit them together and still see straight :dunno:

Cool, heres a few more crappy pics I snapped with my phone in a dark shop in a dark blazer with a drop light. and they'll probably be sideways compliments of linex.:D:haha:
Top left, two brown w/ white stripes coming out of the loom that go up under the dash. Both are melted together. I'm holding one in my hand that goes to a plug into the colum, you can just see the other coming out of the "under hood" side of the fuse block, melted in between the two halves of the block.

pic two is of the plug that goes into the column, the brown w/ white is on the same "spade as a heavy gauge orange (I think)I'm colorblind.

third pic. where the plug goes into the column. It plugs into the bottom half of that.

Try these.
If you can positively ID where one end of the wires go, we should be able to figure out which wire it is, and then find out where it goes.

I traced both Brn w/ wht wires up into the dash loom a few more inches to find that it looped back around and it was the same wire.:doah::rolleyes:
It starts at the TRANS SW KICKDOWN 141 in the diagram then goes into the fuse block at that point either I'm not reading the diagram right or every wire I have is different from the diagram.
But from there it goes under the hood to either the alternator or the starter, again my colorblindness is not helping and I had no one to help me trace it so I'll see tomorrow.

The PO did a pretty good job of rigging stuff like the heater is hot wired and none of my heater/defrost levers worked because the wires were all cut also this blazer came with AC and all that was cut.

There were also wires for the blinker assembly ( wire harness side) that were smashed and causing a short.

the interior lighting to the door jam switches and the lighter were all rigged as well, all of that now is disconnected.

So with this information why do you guys think this thin 20-22 gauge single wire brown wire w/ white stripe would "melt" all the way from the column plug to the firewall?

And why was there about 3 1/2 feet of this (about 2' more than necessary) very thin "single wire" wire running to the fuse block only to connect to a much thicker wire on the other side of the firewall.:dunno:

I also run 2 batteries so Ill post how I have them ran to the isolator and you guys might be able to tell me if it's hooked up correctly.

EZ wiring. They are seriously cheap and oh so worth it.

I've done my tow rig and buggy with them, great quality, stupid cheap price (compared to everyone else) and you'll save yourself a lot of time.

Well my Brother showed up four hrs late, looked at it and said should be fine as he was snipping out the burnt up wire, then told me to put it back together, worst case...It wont fire up, best case it fires up, blinkers work, I got rid of about 10 shorts in the POs hack job wiring, I get it all back together and my gauge cluster works with a shiny new back and bright new bulbs and fully functioning gauges like ALT, FUEL, SPEED, OIL PRESSURE and TEMP...

We'll see tomorrow, I'll finish with my Brothers last infamous words of hillbilly wisdom....

"Should work and if it don't we'll always wished it would have"

Well it fires up and I have blinkers, hazards , running and headlights, but no back up lights, looks like I'll have to fock with the neutral safety switch, I checked, it will start in drive.:eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1::haha::haha::haha::haha::haha:

Any pointers???

I checked, it will start in drive.

Doesn't sound like a problem to me. You are usually planning to drive it when you crank it anyway, just saves a little time........

Got the attention of my kid and my cousin when I bumped the key in nuetral and nothing, then checked drive and bumped it again... They got outta the way in a hurry.:haha:
