wish me luck on installing lift...before pics

I know its been awhile, working all this OT its hard. Plus I decided to replace draglink and TRE's while I was at it so had to order those. Anyway, Im planning on installing the DL and Pitnam tomorrow so the tires will go on then....but dont expect anything more than driveway shots for now lol

Oh man, that looks GREAT! Any plans for beauty rings? How much did those set you back? It's so hard to find the dog dish rims used anymore.

Thanks, I had those made at www.trudesignwheel.net, they use a factory center and a new hoop to whatever width/backspacing you want. They are $140ea powdercoated whatever color you want or $120ea primed

Side note....seems no matter how much you plan these mods out, check your parts list twice you allways end up needing something...lol

Thats cool, im thinking of getting rid of the mts on my 72 and throwing on my set of factory (widened) wheels.. Hard to beat that factory look!

okay guys, I got the Pitnam arm (angle is perfect), new draglink and tires on the Jimmy. Even after a 6deg shim I still have a vibe at 10-25mph (just drove around the block) so I gotta fix that, install ext brake lines and new TRE's when they come in. Its alot taller in person so Im glad I didnt go with a bigger lift. Barely fit in the garage with 1/4" to spare...whew.

sorry all I have are driveway cell pics for now, had to work today again and it got dark on me as I was finishing.

Thanks I appreciate that, Im happy with it but I still have a few details work out. Im gonna try the t-case drop brackets and see if that clears the vibe

Looks great 88...I had to have my bushings replaced in my fronts springs due to the fact they were completely gone...had a shop do it and it was a b!tch for tha shop but at least when I install my 6" front springs nxt yr they'll b easy to get off...tha back ones, that's gonna b fun I'm sure but I'll buy all new stuff and just cut off instead of fighting them...

When you first said you were going to lift it, I almost got worried that such an original rig was going to get molested....but you nailed it man. Perfect stance! Only change I'd make is to throw some spacers or a rear end off of an IFS truck to match the width. Love that wheel/tire/lift combo!

fantastic. THAT is what i call a capable stock truck...........i told you that 8's were the way to go. and you were right about those tires too. think about getting rid of those second shocks up front and you'll see a real big difference in the ride too. i can't wait to do my truck man.

Thanks....I bought the tuff country kit and it came with all new leaf spring bolts so if you get a kit just cut them off like I did. Only one it didnt include was the rear shackle bolt.

Thanks, honestly if my leafs werent sagging I wouldnt have messed with it plus stock height leafs cost the same as lifted. One thing about it is all this being bolt on stuff it can allways be reversed. Stock was original plan, but I thought I would give it a look like it might have been back in the day, slightly lifted on stock wheels....I dunno. That short rearend does suck and I have contemplated finding a truck rear diff and doing a swap.
PERFECT!! Good job on the look, wheels, stance, just right!

Right on man!!

Thanks I appreciate it, was more work than I expected thats for sure.

Yes you were right about the 8's, however I do think 10's would have fit and not made the tire bow in so much but Im happy with this setup. Havent had a chance to drive it much yet to test the shocks, but what little I did it seemed to be fine. I hope you do have as much trouble as I had and learn from this thread what to expect. The drop pitnam was perfect for this size lift, my steering angle is great.

Thanks everyone for the replys :thumb:

what really makes the tire/rim combo look badarse to me is that you didn't do white letters out, that would have ruined it for me... looks tough, me likey!

A set of wheel spacers (1.5") or even better, a 6 lug SF 14 bolt (or 10 bolt...but why not upgrade?) out of a GMT400 truck would make the rear width just right. With the new rear end, it's just a matter of moving spring perches, which would most likely fix your rear vibe issues as well. If you have a welder, this is a quick, easy job once the current rear is out.

Chalk your tires across the tread in a few spots and drive around the block. Adjust your pressure until it wears off evenly. You'll likely have to run less pressure then you thought, but it will pay off in tread savings. I've found most tire shops like to inflate tires to the max sidewall pressure when they mount up a set...your K5 will probably want ~25psi with those tires, and I'd bet they sit somewhere between 35 and 55 right now.

Looks great, really like that size.

When I first lifted mine it to had a small viberation, lowering the transfer case is what fixed mine.

These have 35lbs and thats max (Load Range C) but I agree I will probably run alot less

Good deal, Im gonna order a kit today

Looks awesome! Great job. You took your time and it paid off, definitely. Glad to hear it fits in the garage....that's alway such a nice bonus!

The stance is perfect. Not too high in the front as some end up.....
