Ok my truck won't turn over. I've checked to see if I have spark, I can see that it is pumping fuel through the filter... I've tried pouring in gas in the carb. the engine only has 2k on, edelbrock carb and the msd HEI are not even a real old. I've checked though my HEI, my wires... took the carb off and cleaned it out with carb cleaner. I dont know what else :confused::confused:

After your truck fails to start after cranking, is it flooded? I just fixed my Blazer today, it had dirt stuck in the needle and seat and would not start. Did you take the top off the carb to check for crud or did you just spray carb cleaner down the intake?

i sprayed carb cleaner with the carb off. I also checked the needles, one was stuck, but when I did that it was running.

Can't be flooded, I've been trying off and on for a week to get it started.

so you do have spark then?

i've double checked my wires, i've used my voltmeter to see if I have power going to the coil and I've pulled out a plug and checked to see if it had spark.

was there a significant even that directly preceded the problem's appearance? for example, extreme temperature change, a serious day of wheeling that could have knocked things around? imo, having a logical starting point, like that, makes a huge difference in how long it takes to hunt something down. narrows your search.

also, while it's a bit of a longshot, have you checked the spark plugs for fouling? i've seen it happen to engines that weren't driven hard enough to seat the rings during break-in. they keep burning too much oil, and of course, coat the plugs with it. that has a really simple solution: pull the plugs and clean the electrodes well (carb cleaner or break cleaner), then stick them back in and run the engine hardER (not actually hard), to get cylinder pressure up for several minutes at a time. 2000 miles is nowhere near the point of no return, in my vast(haha) experience.

(disclaimer: i'm not a mechanic, engineer, etc. just a guy who has had his hands in more than a few vehicles. if your engine explodes, implodes, or enters into a same-sex marriage :eek1:, i cannot be held responsible.)

I gotcha.. y'know, it could be fouled plugs, as was said.. maybe the ICM? sorry I can't be of more specific help..

Well i put new plugs and wires on it tonight and it fired up. So the plugs must have been fouled, I'm not good at reading plugs, but i'm leaning toward them being gas fouled. Partly cause it has been running real rich and I found a needle valve stuck on the carb. I might not being hanging on to the truck long enough to find out anyways. Thanks for the help

yeah, every time I turn around there is something wrong with it. its the only truck I have now, and most of the time its just parked in my driveway. I'm tired of car pooling with the wife.

you could always build up that cab from your dads place. lol

Seriously though, if you ever need any help, give me a call.

sure wanna help, i'll give you a killer deal on the truck.

killer deal on the cab at your dads place, or killer deal on your truck???? lol

sorry, but that cab just cracks me up for some reason. talk about a project

Glad you got it running.
I have bought so many problem trucks to only find out it was way simple to fix. But have bought good trucks that were a problem to fix. Get a timing light and have some one crank the engine and with the light hooked to #1 spark plug. I have the type that i can advance or retard. While it is cranking aim the light at the timing mark. It should be firing close to between 0-10 degree mark. If not use the advance or retard knob and find where its firing. I had a engine jump timing and it was firing 60degrees out. I had a dis gear get stripped due to a oil pump locking up and that would do it also. If its firing at the right time and you are getting fuel its the spark plugs. They can look brand new and still foul out.
