My K5 wont start! I get nothing when I turn the ignition key. The lights and horn etc all work, the battery is fully charged. Turning the key results in silence. I need some ideas as I'm stuck in Pittsburgh again.:doah:

Id start with a quick check of the cables on the battery, starter and grounds. Ive had lights etc work but the amp draw of the starter produced nada, also had it happen recently with a screwy battery. Worked fine one day and the next dead, went on like this for weeks.Second Id try tapping the starter body lightly incase it developed Chevy starter syndrome. Thats for quick fixes off the top of my knoggin.:doah:

I've checked fuses beneath dash and none are blown. I removed and cleaned the battery terminals. I had the truck running at an idle when i suddenly shut off. I tried restarting and it turned over but didint start. i pulled off the air cleaner and had some one turn the key to check for fuel dilevery. It was sending fuel but no start. I pulled off a spark plug wire and had someone turn the key. I saw no spark. I fiddled with the coil pack and retried to start. I started and then died. I tried to restart but from that point nothing but dead silence. i put jumper clabes on it and retried and again no response.

what year is yonder K5? I would be willing to bet hard dollars that the fuseable links on the firewall near the distributor cap. chances are, theres a bad connection there, and you wiggled it when you fiddled with the coil...

Neutral safety switch on clutch or transmission for part of the problem( intermittant cranking)
More details please. Year of K5, Auto or Standard How's it been performing up til now?

It's an 89. I did check all of the cap wires on the distributor and may have bumped into that link you mentioned.

It's got a 700R4 in there and this intermittent starting began yesterday and stopped starting this morning

Try to start it in neutral instead of park then. This may or may not be part of the engine not running after starting though.
Did you say that you were on the road and out of town?

i'm in Pittsburgh, PA. I was heading home to Atlanta,GA when it died, so I had it towed back to the hotel.

I did try to start in nuetral but the key wont turn

when you checked for spark, did you just unplug the wire and crank or did you stick a screwdriver in the end of the plug and hold it close to something metal while cranking? Do you have a helper there with you?

i held the wire close to the heat shield and didnt stick a screwdriver in it.
i cant even do that test now as it just wont do anything now

You should b e able to turn the key in neutral.... I would try to turn the key to see if it will turn as you slowly work the gear shift back and forth between park all the way to drive. The neutral safety switch might be loose or out of adjustment.
How you set for tools?
