Hey folks,

I need some suggestions on some work boots. Something I can weld in and wont pick up metal shavings in the soles.

Suggestions?

Every boot I've ever worn has picked up metal shavings in the soles. Best boots I have are my Danners that I have right now.

Redwing only for me. I just bought my first pair of non-steel toe Redwings for non-work wear. Now I wish I didn't have to wear steel toe at work. Absolutely the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever worn. I have worn redwings steel toe for many years. Even wore a pair at the house. But not after these new ones. I'm going back next week to get another pair in case they decide to stop selling this style.

I have a pair of Rockies for work and they are super comfy and I love everything but the soles. They aren't a solid one piece sole so its coming apart where it was molded together.

Ditto on the Red Wings--they're expensive, but my feet and back are worth it. I don't know if you'll find a sole that won't pick up metal shavings...

One more for Redwings! I've got a pair of Justin's also, and they are ok, but I will only buy Redwings after the Justin's wear out. I work in a pair of Redwings. They make potato chips where I work so you can bet the floor is slick there, and as long as I don't try to step down on my heel, the Redwings wont slide on even the slickest spots.

I have never found a boot with a soft enough inner padding under my heel that does not make my feet hurt after wearing them for a short while. I have work lots of different boots but have never tried Redwings though, damn pricy boots for sure. I allways put my thumb in the heel area and check how much padding a boot or shoe has, If it's hard to just a very small amount of cushion, I pass. It has to have alot of cushion to me to wear them. You will not find a boot that won't pick up chips period. ANYTHING hot will melt right it, or sharp will cut and dig right in.

Wolverine Durashocks, waterproof and electrically insulated.......best boots i ever bought, just got good insoles to go with them also......i work 13-14 hours a day, every day..........

I use Redwings Worx...you can get them Calf high or a little below...they are oil and water proof....tight going on but once you getem on they are nice....I also have an old pair of Dr. Martins that I use for the shop...I weld, cut and getem greasy and they have lasted from 04 til now.

I'm probably gonna get hassled for this but I'm just stating my honest opinion. My work boots are a pair of 35 dollar Brahma steel toes that I got at Walmart in '04. They have handled all the abuse I've put them through and they are very comfortable. You should look into them.

try bed pans stuffed with pillowcases, they won't pick up steel shavings, they will be steel toed, and it will feel like you are walking on clouds.:haha:

or chippewa's with dr. scholl's gel heel insert.

another for Redwings.......

I used to go though 2 pairs work boots a year....every year. I guess I was hard on them at work or something. I though new pair of insoles every other month as good enough. until I bought my 1st pair or redwings. I swear to God they have been like slippers since the day I bought them...that was 18 months ago. they are still going strong. I have changed insoles along the way. goes without saying. but the leather and soles. A++

they ARE 4-5x the price of a good El cheapo pair. but they are 100x the boot for the money. and lifetime supply of laces, lifetime warrantee on stitching. can't beat it. when these blow I'll buy them again. no doubt about it. the cost is worth it.

BUT you said welders boots. you want no laces or lace covers. I have a pair of Dakota leather welders boots, I actually wear them daily outside of work. I love them. pull ons, no laces. kevlar stiching for no burn through. the soles are HARD. I doubt you pick up shavings, likely flatten them.
