I am in the process of installing my lift and need some help.

1. I am putting on a set of 4" HD Tuff Country Springs in the front with the HD 7" shackles from DIY4X and a zero rate. Is this going to cause my drive shaft to be at a bad angle? Will it require it to be shemmed?

2. Started to do my disc brake install but only got as far as pulling out my axle shaft to get the drum assembly off. Is there a special tool to get the nut off from around the interior axle housing? I can't seem to get the drum loose at all. I have only dealt with one other full float drum set up like this and it had a normal 3 and 1/2 nut around the axle housing.

3.To get the gas tank to drop for the shackle flip I have to take off my hitch. All the bolts are loose but I have one that is spinning from inside the frame and I can't get to it becasue the gas tank is there. Any suggestions?

I have done alot of mechanicle work but this is all new for me. So far I everything off the front axle except for the steering arm. I plan on cutting the ubolts and lifting it up. I am heading back out to see if I can get the front springs swapped out today and get going on the rear tommorow. It's going slow.My air compressor for my air tools is not working and I am doing all the work myself. Hopefully I can get everything done by the end of the week.
Thanks

1. yes, i think you're pinion angle will end up nasty on the front, especially when flexed.

2. IDK

3. i'd probably cut and replace the bolt. reciprocating saw, dremel, grinder, etc. if space allows.

What angle of shim would you think I would need and will autozone carry something like that?

Also, I am in town picking up a pitman arm remover and I forgot to bring in the spring bushing bolts to match up to get new ones. Does someone know what size for the front. I have a set for the back coming from ORD. I just need the front ones.

maybe. but they don't usually have stuff like that, from what i've seen. ask them and see how confused they get. ha

they should be able to find the size with their computers. i think they used to be the same size, but changed in the late 70s or early 80s and made the front bolt bigger.

1. Yes your front shaft will require some angle correction. How much you won't know until it is on the tires again. You may have to drop the t-case which will make your front angle even worse.

2. Yes you will need a hub socket for the 14 bolt rear nuts. You can get it off with a hammer and a punch (not recommended). Assembling to proper torque specs you will need the socket.

3. Cut it off. Replace all the hitch bolts with new bolts. Cheap insurance if you plan on towing. Or if you plan on using the hitch as a recovery point.

If I put the ubolts on and have to change the angle can I reuse the ubolts after being torqued? Or do I just put them on and snug a little to check the angle?

I am pretty sure the bolt size is 7/16 looking at ORD's website. They sell new HD shackle and bushing set and states they replace the factory 7/16 with 1/2 for more beef so I went and picked up some grade 8 bolts to replace.

I guess I can pick up a hub socket at an auto parts store? Last time noone had one around here for the big bus I was working on.

I will have many more ??? as I proceed with the change so thanks in advance for all the help to come.

i learned, (the hard way) that you should get those u bolts loose before cutting them..a nice little scar from a u bolt to the face is never fun.
