This is a work in progress, of course, and needs quite a bit more work. I have not sunk very much as far as money into this, its a definite budget build. It is an extended cab s10 body on a k5 frame with a 5.3 Vortec out of a 01 silverado and k20 axles.

I have a couple more updates, got a little bit done, made a rear bumper, moved the from axle/leaf mounts 3.5 inches forward. Finally got the body in place so I can make some mounts. Getting really close to a first fire, which I will try and remember to record and post up.

Far shot, moved leafspring mounts -- this really improved Driveshaft angle, and also oil pan clearance on the 5.3 vortec.

Testing a little flex (yes, it had a lot of frame flex... cant wait to get the body mounted and the bumpers welded and some new supports to clear this issue up)

nice work. :D more pics

i post them as soon as i get them, work has been slow lately but we are starting to get back on it hard to finish it. We are working on the body mounts now and i will get pics of them probably tomorrow.

Got a couple of little update pics. I have been a little low on cash, so not much has been done. I am currently rebuilding my front axle and working on getting my shifter in and brake lines ran.

I also have a nice little video that I made before I hooked all of this stuff up. I couldnt get it to start for a while and found the problem to be 7 of the 8 injector pintles being froze up. After some hard tapping and inject cleaner, I got them all freed up. I will get a new video once I get her driving and will post it up.

Axle rebuilt, Shifter finally installed after a nice days work. It is the B&M QuickSilver shifter. I love the way it shifts, and it is the perfect height for me.

omg. this is exactly what i have been wanting to do for a while. an extended cab s-10 on a blazer frame. i even have all the parts, just no motivation to tear the blazer apart yet.

can you take pics on how you did the body mounts ?

You should definately start on it. It has been a lot of fun building this thing, and I can't wait till my driveshaft parts come in this week so i can finally drive it around.

hey pheany what motor mount did you use on the 5.3 to the k5 blazer frame and what did you do to clear the oilpan ????? and did you buy the wire harness or make your own

I used the Advanced Adapters gen 3 (LS1) to Small Block Chevy mounts, and then they mounted right in the stock location of the k5. Do not buy the ones with the LS1 plates and the motor mounts, the motor mounts that come with it are much too small (they are made for use in a Chevelle), you only need the adapter plates. The oil pan was close, so what I did was moved the front axle forward 3 inches, then the 4 inch lift helped it tremendously. The harness I cut down myself. It was not very hard to do, but it took a lot of time and a lot of reading to figure out. (did 2 of them with success before I did mine)

@C1090blazer -- that will be awesome, I think you will really like the reliability of these motors.

Here are some more pics I took over the weekend after the little bit I did to get it driveable. Will post a driving video ASAP. It is very loud considering it has straight pipes with no cats on it, but has a nice deep rumble inside the cab.

Overfilled the transmission, so it was leaking out when i shut it off. No biggie, just have to drain a little out.

yeah im goin with a 5.3 for turn key start "my girlfriend is particular" and it has more horsepower than a stock 350 does ...havent seen one in a k5 blazer yet and its a ls chevy motor what else can i say....oh yeah i can get them cheaper than a carb 350

exactly. I paid 350 for my motor and wiring harness without the starter. I was given the starter for free, the wiring i did myself cost a whole 20 bucks, plus i dont have to get a special carb for high angle hills. My dad was telling me over and over "you should have just went with a 350 with a carb" and i ask him to find me one for under 500 bucks..... still havent seen that motor lol.

exactly all true you cant go wrong with a ls motor....im not knocking the old tree50 they are the cheapest raw horsepower ever built ....but nowadays times are different ....but the aftermarket parts for the ls motor are really high but stock for me with the right gearing is alright .....

Yup, same here. Most I MIGHT do is a cam, but like I explained to him, the 5.3 is like the 350 of my time (im 21 years old) and i think he kind of understand where i am coming from now.... today I should have videos of me driving it around. I started working on the wiring for the fans yesterday and had to run to pick up some parts, so i didnt get it all completed. I have 2 wires to run, and then i have to mount my battery on the firewall somehow, then hook up all of the power cables, set the fan temps as well as enable them in the PCM and ill be ready to go.
