Working in the K5 Engine bay

I found something I like...a Top-Side Creeper

That's too easy. Don't you enjoy being almost cut open at the stomach from laying on the core support? :D

i use my hub and tire as steps and just sit on the fender. only problem with this for me at the moment is my foot cast is to big and gets in the way while sitting on the fender

were I use to work the shop had that same unit .

it worked on my buddys truck with 44" tires and around 20" lift . just set on the edge of the core support when hood up .

Mason scaffold....Just use a one of the braces and pull the truck half way in, but a couple of boards on ladder side. Use the first or second steps ( Depends on how tall your truck is )

I used to stack 2 milk crates but bruised my ribs a few times on the hood latch when the crates would kick out. (That stupid latch makes you bite your tongue to keep from teaching the kids new words.) Ended up with one of these platforms for Father's Day. It's actually great for lots of things - like washing the trucks. I keep some old seat cushions around to toss on the core support for reaching the back of the engine compartment.

I do similar when I have an all day thing going on.. I'll take 2 upside down 5 gal buckets and lay a hunk of 2 x 12 on em from fender to fender...

Milk crate and when I really need to lean and dont want the crate moving i put a bag of concrete 60lbs under it, never moves. Or I sit in the engine bay. Im 6'4 220lbs.

I use a bench I made. Cheap and multi useful!
That top side creeper is sweet though. :thumb:

How much outstretching does it take to make that kick out from you...or does it stay put?

although 2 5-gallon buckets and a 2 x 12 would hide away so easily in the garage...

yup, stoopid easy peezy... I always have tons of lumber kicking around the side of the house from the marina, so I just cut a plank to length... and 5's put it up pretty high for easy access..

I've never had an issue with it kicking out, but I guess if you where really leaning with em on a slippery floor, it could.....

you could use upside down milkcrates the same way, which I've done, but mine are usually filled.. it would just be a bit lower...

I have used just an upside down crate in the past by itself, but I don't like to.. it f*cks up the bottom grating to the point I had some crack.. and my milkcrates are too valuable of storage for me to wreck standing on... :pimp:

not to mention if your foot goes thru, it'd be like a Vietcong punji trap.... :doah: :eek1:

I wish I could get my hands on some of the old fashioned metal milk crates

not sure I remember what a metal one would look like..I like just good old fashioned heavy duty, plastic ones from like 15, 20 yr's ago.. the ones you can stack.. but they are getting very difficult to find these days... any "store bought" ones, just aren't the same quality...

I probably have about 12 to 15 between here and work, and I'd love another 1/2 dozen.. I like the bigger, rectangular ones, not the square ones.. but even those are nice to have...

1950's to 1970's they looked like this....heavy too

Never had it kick out on me. I built them as picnic table benches originally.

I got sick of the buckets and milk crates kicking out and me gutting myself on the rad support...I should build one taller and with the legs at the very end of the bench " so it won`t flip if you step near the ends."

Build to suit your needs! I know a guy that works on Duramaxes that has a big wooden table that he stands on for changing Injectors and other big jobs... works sweet!

I need to make me a bench. Its angled in my alley where I work.on my truck. The bucket and milk crate game gets dangerous where I am. Sitting under the hood is ok, but i've found the big block makes that a bit more difficult than my small block trucks.
