I have a '93 Chev Silverado 8 foot pick up and to get to Denver, I'd like to buy a cap, and was finding lots of Ford caps locally on CL. I guess they're all similar, but short of test-fitting it, would it fit well? And match the tailgate, etc?
So I checked all the craigslist near me, and I found a Cheby one 30 minutes away, hi top, $250, but I went for a drive on every different road, and found this junk truck. No one was home, but I went back a little while later, met the woman homeowner, and we chatted like best buddies, and I bought the truck for $200!
The motor was blown, or something, and it's REALLY rusty, but how can I go wrong. It's worth $500 if I drag it to the scrapyard. I'll have to leave the plow behind. It's even the same color!
Then I found this REALLY tall cap, but 6', oh well... and a couple of "friends"...
There was a time when you could swap a cap or ladder racks between any Ford,Dodge,or GM. As mentioned,GM put style over function in '88. I have a cap from an '86 Chevy on my '92 GMC. I fretted and fretted over it,then just did it. I doesn't look awful:
