What size steel are you using for sliders. My plan was 2x6 but its kinda expensive. What is everyone running?

alright so I should be ok with .188 wall, they have a discount section were I can get 80" piece of .250 wall for 1/2 price.

round tube/pipe seems to work well for sliders and i've seen it for cheaper than rectangular for same or similar thickness. might be a good way to go.

My rockers and cab corners are not looking too hot, so thats why I wanted to go with the square. Just hack the old crap off weld it to the sheet metal. I need to start getting things going soon.

About a month ago I picked up a stick of 2X3" .250 wall and it was $80. I heard today that yesterday and metal prices went up 20%!!!!

I went with 2" x 4" x .125, seems plenty stout... I'm also using it for all the cab supports...

I have a pretty good steel "in" so I got a nice deal on 2 20' sticks...

Well, if steel is getting that high and possibly will be higher,I might as well scrap my buggy build.

Find a steel surplus place.

Besides, you should be able to build a ground up buggy for less than $1000 in tube (it could easily be half that too depending on the size, thickness and grade tubing you use).

256 and change for 24 foot stick.

what was this place?

I only ask because I know for fact if you can find a steel shop that it should be cheaper...

example...

I am going to build racks in the garage above the garage doors...
using L steel....

home depot wants $10 for a 4' section... at fazzios (local steel shop)
it is $8.50 for a 12' section!!!!!!!!

I just got a quote today for 1.75 x .120 DOM. 6 sticks / 132 ft $465.00 delivered.

I think it was Marmon Keystone. I was looking for hrew but they dont carry it and K&K was only 100.00 cheaper for the hrew.
So as not to hijack, My slider are 3x3x.188 and tied to the frame with 2x2x.188. I cut out my rockers and replaced them with the square tube. I also plated the cab supports and welded them there also.
Its a unibody now.

Its a local place called Van Buren steel. I got all my steel for my trailer there for a good price. But that was 6 months ago. I'm going to go check out their bargain rack. I measured 88 inches per side for my truck, and then another 80 to to get the basic bumpers done(Functionality not looks). The price I got was with .250 wall so By switching to .188 wall it should be a little cheaper. Ah well I guess I'll probably just bite the bullet and spend the $$
