Looking for an 8.1 liter to swap into my new tow rig. Would be cool if it is a local pickup, but if you have one you are looking to sell let me know (no matter where you are located). Would be cool if it had the whole wiring harness/computer but if not still post up.

I have one that was pulled from a silverado that had hit a cinderblock on the front tire and totaled it. I pulled it along with the harness, cluster, and a bunch of the wiring.
Let me know if you want more info. Also have the allison that it was attached to....
 
I would like to spend about $800 +/- for just the motor with harness and computer. Not too interested in the Allison, at least at this moment.

Do you know how many miles are on the motor? Did you hear it run before you pulled it? Sorry I never got back to you about that full 3/4 ton truck we talked about a while ago. As you can see, I ended up going a different route but still want to throw an 8.1 motor in it :)

TTT. Haven't really found the deal I want. Some have too high of miles for my taste, and some guys I have found are way overpriced for what they have IMO (most of those overpriced guys are craigslist guys). Just bumping this up in case someone out there has something...
 
There's one for sale on a local FB crawler page. $2500 for the engine, ECU, harness with 18K miles on it. It's a closed group but I can probably get you a PH# or something to get in contact with him.
 
Man, $2500 for the motor, then shipping, then I would have to get the harness reworked and ecu flashed/tuned, I am then looking at the same exact money for a package from Tilden Motorsports, and that one comes with a 30 pt inspection and a 1 yr warranty......that is some seriously low miles though!

yeah I hear ya, I'll continue to keep my eyes open for any others.
 
I know where there are two around here. They both need rebuilds though. I may be headed CO way at some point in the Spring if you are interested.
 
I'm still on the hunt for one. All that I have found around here have a lot of miles on them and would need a rebuild, but they still want a lot of money for them. More than I think they are worth since they need rebuilds.

$2500 for an 8.1 with harness & computer with only 18k seems like a steal to me! I am easily going to have 5K in my 489 stroker with no efi! By the way, how's the project going otherwise? Have you started a tear down or are you just gathering parts?

Yeah, that is a pretty good price, but that one is in CA too (so then it's figure out how to get it back to me in CO). I could get a pulled 8.1 with already reworked harness (stand alone) and pre-flashed computer that comes freshened up with a 1 yr warranty from Tilden Motorsports for $3500 (I am contemplating doing this....a little more money but when it shows up it truly is ready to drop in and run). I do have a buddy local that has an extra 60K full 8.1, but he just isn't quite ready to part with it yet....maybe in a couple months I can get that one off him...we will see

The truck is still at my brother's house in WA actually. We tried to plan a run where we meet in Boise and pick it up last month, but weather screwed that up. We actually have planned to do the same thing this weekend, so hoping weather holds up for both my drive up to Boise and my brothers drive down to Boise. So we will see.

I am still in parts gathering mode right now. I have a bunch of misc parts to fresh'n up the interior (new nicer seat covers, new plastic molded dash cover, have plans to fix the headliner, ect...) and picked up an NV4500 and almost all the necessary parts for a manual swap (new pedal assembly, slave/master, clutch). I want to get the motor and tranny ready to do all at once and just swap all the drivetrain together.

Have you checked in with Larry, Alex and Brigham? I know Alex has an extra 8.1 but he might not want to let it go, he always seems to come up with stuff so he might be able to make it happen. I'm assuming you know Larry, Alex and Brigham.
