Thought i destroyed my transfer case today but it was actually the adapter that grenaded. Sucked it back together and up with a few ratchet straps and actually finished the run on my own power. Thoughts as to the cause, opinions, etc. 5in lift on 40's. One ton axles d60/14bff. 7.4l/4l80e/241.

Pic is after i got it sucked back together. Other pic shows off the new involuntary clocking position. Lol.

Adaptor pull loose from the trans.

If so I have seen the threads pull out of the transmission. Several times actually.

I now helicoil every trans I pull out before putting back in

Bolts backed out , or the front shaft bound up or bottomed out.

I have also seen extreme frame flex bust adapters and transmission case before.
Jeez, and to think I once wanted to separate my cab from bed by cutting a 1" strip out behind the ol '79s cab. To get more flex. Thanks to the gods I found this site, set me straight.

Thanks for the suggestions any of which could be possible. I was just finishing up running a really extreme Creek bed probably 8 or 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. I haven't had a chance to to crawl under it yet. I will definitely keep everyone posted

I've seen Transmissions break before and I've seen transfer cases break before but I've never seen the adapter break

Did you bounce it hard or drop the front end hard?
Seen several of the adapters break front the driveshaft bottoming out as mentioned

Didn't bounce too much but did ease over a rock ledge (3ft?) not too long before the carnage that day. We were running an old creek bed/ mine tailings run that day. Probably a 7or8 on a scale of 10. Just a sign from the gods to finish installing my doubler. Still need a triple stick shifter....

I would upgrade that front output now rather then later when it's in the truck and broke lol
