My brother needs to trade his nv4500 w/ 6.34:1 first gear for a 95'+ Nv4500.We swapped a Cummins into his rig and need the newer one so we can install a Dodge input shaft to get this project finished. This tranny has 110K on it. It came out of a 94' 3500 4x4.It comes with a shifter, but no bellhousing. Will pay for a bellhousing if you have one with tranny.

He needs a GM one. We'll swap in a Dodge input shaft. We need to stick with a GM tranny because we are going to run either a GM 205 or a GM 203/205. Thanks for the offer though.

you can runa a 205 or 203 on a dodge tranny. its still the 6 bolt np pattern, just 2x...spline output. so youd either need a 203 out of a dodge or new out put. that should open your options up some

from what i have heard from tranny techs its a big job to reman these with big tools. i would just find a dodge 203 and or 205 and bam be done with it. thats just me tho. and if needed try millitary surplus places thay have lots of dodge and gm cases around. might sell ya just a rear head or input gear for the 203 if he is going dubbler.

You may know this already, but it is not a simple bolt-in deal to swap inputs. The GM trans has a smaller bore for the front bearing retainer to fit into. It can be done (I did it), but the bearing retainer pilot od for the Dodge HD input shaft will need to be machined down to match the smaller id of the GM case. It is a fairly stout piece with enough material around it to still have good strength. Along with that, the four holes in the new bearing retainer will need to be slotted as the Dodge HD unit has a larger bolt pattern than the GM case has.

I got a good deal on a '95 NV4500 (I also have a 6.34 box that I couldn't use for this application :doah:), so I decided to go that way, but if I was shopping, I would look for a NV4500HD out of a Cummins application and get a new input for the '205 (not terribly hard to find), or swap in a GM output to the NV4500HD.
