ok, I'm starting design for my x-member and have a question.. i've looked through some of the x-member threads, and not sure if i've seen this discussed...

I'm doing 2" x 2" tube.. I'm thinking of using bushings out near the frame, as a removal method for the x-member, and trans mounting.. with stand-offs off the frame...

something like this...

either cage tie-ins, like this to the frame..

or even more likely, 2 x 2 tube welded into these, with backing plates...

extending out like 4 to 6", welded to a bushing setup, then 2 x 2 out the other side for the rest of the x-member...

welllllll, the question is, will a multi-point mount like that be ok for a trans mount? or will that be too much steel mounted to, and coming off the adapter and put too much stress on, and crack the adapter?

otherwise I'll bushing it right off the adapter, then do some other disconnect method over at the rails... any input is appreciated! :D

I don't honestly see a problem with it, sounds like a good idea to me, as long as you brace it good. You will get plenty of pros and cons on this I bet, we will see.

I have read and seen both ways done. Many say it's ok either way bushings at the adapter or the frame. I have never liked all that weight hanging off the back of an aluminum case. How about those tabs welded right off the frame?A rear mount is always a good idea to take some weight off and the torque factor. I don't like the sound of 4-6" connections off the frame. You'll figure it out. my.02

thats EXACTLY what I want to do, except with square, and a 3 or maybe 4 point..

and I don't want to weld to the frame... thats just me....

is that hard mounted at the adapter?

think I'll follow your lead!

was there a particular reason you went 3, and not 4 mounts? or is it 4?

It' four, just hidden. Heres a good hard mount pic. There is two more triangles on the top to the hard mount

Here is the side you couldn't see.

very nice, I like... pics saved... :wink1:

I would love to do mine in tube, but the time frame for me getting a bender is after when I need to do the x-member..

thanks for the imput!

I hope you have fairly rigid engine mounts too, because otherwise the end of the tranny, or the adaptor is gonna break with it set up like that. Even just running poly tranny mounts and rubber motor mounts causes problems.

I would really think about adding a similar material tranny mount to your set-up. If you have rubber for the motor, use rubber. If you have poly use poly. It allows the entire drivetrain to 'torque over' the same amount and at the same rate.

Other than that...nice work! I like the inner frame strip idea.
