Update 6/4/2014 I have ZERO in stock. Go to last post to reply.

I have 5. Joints are in good shape, no rust. I cleaned them a little :D but you can clean them a lot. :D:D

40 shipped
25 pickup

let me know if you have a body lift, I can't promise a longer one, but if I have one left, I'll ship it to you. There are two versions, one is about an inch longer.

:waytogo:

I have two longer ones and three "shorter" ones. I welded up the tabs on three of them. The other ones aren't weldable till you cut away some of the rubber. It's completely not necessary, but I like to weld them so they are absolutely tight when driving down the road. Yes, the center will still collapse in a crash. My personal shaft is welded with 1000 4,000 miles since install. :thumb:

My truck doesn't have a body lift on it yet. But I'll measure what length was needed, which is actually shorter than what the Jeep needs. I'll get that measurement and the stock jeep length measurement as well. The shafts that are slightly cleaner in the next post are the longer ones, by about an inch. Both work bitchen with plenty of length. Not sure if they will work with 3" body lifts. I can only say 1" would still give you a safe amount of shaft still inside.

Picture of the two male shafts. One being 1" shorter than the other.
*these are my own, same thing, just taken apart

stock length pulled from Jeep 23 1/4

length after installation w/o body lift 21 3/4

length after installation of 1" body lift 22"

you must have the correct ends on your steering box and steering column to work. These are what the ends look like.

Bump

I have about $10 invested in each of these. Between round trip gas, junkyard entry fee, junkyard parts price, and welding 3 of them. If I don't weld them, someone will complain down the road that their shaft has become sloppy:haha:. This is the best thing to do to an xj shaft if you get the chance.

So the 3 hours at the yard plus 1 hour drive time is what I'm looking to recoup. Shipping always sucks, but I can go $20 if you happen to be in the area. These will go on C-list soon, with a few other things of mine, just been busy/lazy to put up an ad. :) I probably wont be going back for more, just happen to find a large selection of Jeeps that I could pick and choose which to work on. :waytogo:

I should probably do this conversion over the winter. I've got an '87, no body lift. As I understand it, for mine, it's a bolt-in, just put a small groove in the steering wheel end for the bolt to go across?

yes, for your year it's a bolt in. Only thing needed is the bolt grove and you still need to collapse the XJ shaft to your trucks need. They need to be compressed about 1.5".

You still got any that would fit mine? Or only the longer ones? Ive read on the conversion and im still not 100% on everything but your welding technique seemed to work better than some peoples that put them in and had problems. Im a gotta have it in hand to learn kinda guy

Likewise
Both XJ shafts will work for your year blazer. The longer ones can be collapsed just the same. They are only helpful for those with a body lift, but harmful to none.

Once I got my first XJ shaft, I looked at the rubber in the end. I didn't care about extra vibration, I just wanted it solid, so I welded it. Later I found out, there is no extra vibration, so it's only good to weld them. Then, after getting some other XJ shafts, I noticed most of them were always different at the top mount....meaning the rubber joint was in a different position, like it was moving. Most recently, I had a rubber joint completely movable by hand and I could slip the shaft in and out. I commented about this in someone's thread, they had an XJ with a moving rubber bushing. I don't remember who this was though. :dunno:

Alright. Well ill check again next week to see if ya still got any after I get payed.

I don't know if it was '80 on the dot, but yes, there are some steering set ups that wont work with these. I took some pictures of the XJ ends, if your steering box and column ends match, you're golden. But some people have troubles with one or both ends.

Do you any left? I have an '88 that I am working on.

Thanks

So which part were you welding? Did the longer one work with your body lift?

I welding the top collar to the "ears" of the shaft. It does nothing for it if the rubber is still tight, but if the rubber that is suppose to hold it is bad, the welding holds it in place. Just a little extra strength I like to do. The longer ones do not have ears for welding, so they are not welded. They didn't need it like the others did. I've had success cutting back some of the rubber inside the top end, then jumping the gap to weld them together, but I didn't even try this time around. I don't own a welder and didn't bother having the guy try. Install it and be happy. If for whatever reason it slips (they are shaped to never lose steering ability, just become sloppy) send me a pic and I'll send you 10 bucks to get it welded.

Yes, I have two longer ones and one shorter one. :waytogo:

pending payment for the last one, I'm all out.

If I manage to get out again soon, I'll see if I can find more.
