... I just noticed that the gas prices are dropping in Germany:crazy::crazy: ... Well, you just (!) have to pay 5,60 Dollar for a Gallon Diesel.... You don't find many big blocks over here, believe me :rolleyes: Gas is about 6,70$ a gallon (regular) ... Premium or high octane gas (I don't know how you call that in the USA) is about 7,05 $ a Gallon...

Greetings

Yeah you really need to thank god you are not in Europe.
I was in France for a month and at the time (1993) diesel was half the price of Gasoline which was $5 per gallon, I have no idea what it is now but I do now it's not cheap.
They rarely see V6's there, and barely any V8's.
They also like to use the public transportation which is 100 times better than here mainly because of gas prices.
By the way in 93' in France there were 80%diesel powered vehicles on the road, 20% gas powered, mainly beause of the price difference in the fuel cost:bow: although the vehicle cost was 10% higher

Which was my point.
My reply was to the guy in Boise ID
Yeah we have it still good here we pay half the price they pay for diesel, and 1/3 to 1/4 for the price of gas depending where in europe you go.

Here in Finland it's about a $4.87 for a gallon, in a cheapest place, $5.18 is currently highest price you pay for a gallon. Gas is about $6.26/gallon.

Public transportation works if you live in a city or a town, but like me, I rather live in country. So you have to have a car or truck to be able to go work, or to grocery store.

Do you have a separate diesel tax in Germany? We have, and for example, if my 'Burban had a soft rear seat (a.k.a factory seat), it would have diesel tax as high as 850€, or $1148 per year :eek1: :eek1: So, when it was imported, it was registered with "hard" rear seat, that has max of 40mm/1.57" thick padding, which leads to 2+3 seating (2 persons up front, and 3 temporary passenger seats in back), and it has 50mph speed limit. And tax of 129€/$174. My Blazer had almost as high tax, but then I converted it to a pick-up, and had a lower tax.

Funny thing was, I could have just unbolt the rear seat, and make 4" tall "wall" behind the front seats, and done with it. And if wanted in future, change it back to soft seat and high tax. When imported, full vehicle tax was paid. BUT, if it had imported with lower tax with hard rear seat, and I would have done that pick-up conversion, I could not have changed it back to have rear seat, unless I pay that insane vehicle tax (something between $10000-$20000)

We do have gas powered STW's and 4x4's, that have same stupid a$$ mods done, just to get them imported with lower vehicle tax.

Oh, and if you happend to have a pick-up, and mount a camper top on it, you get to pay taxes like $20000!! But, if under the camper is at least 135cm/53" room in height (on a certain area on bed floor), or the camper is soft, then it's okay, no tax to pay.

And all that is just a tip of the huge iceberg

Hehe,
yes, Germany is still a part of Europe :D, but sometimes I wish we were not, especially if you fill up the tank of your car... the (about) 83% taxation of gas is not very funny, especially if you're a fan of big old cars...
You can imagine how much money the government is getting year by year with that taxation rate. on the other handit is not as bad as it seems: the money is used for a lot of things. You won't have to pay for school and university -for example- , there's a lot of that money invested in the health system/insurance, unemployment insurance, social pension found and so on. Last but not least, people should be moved to use the public transportation system - it's quite good and modern as Germany is not a very big country compared to the USA (it has about the size of Montanta but 82 Million inhabitants) - so you don't have very long distances between the bigger cities.

@4x4_76:
yes we have an additional/seperate tax on diesels too. The bad thing about that: the taxation rate is measured by cubic inch. For my 6,2 Diesel (as it has quite a high pollution rate) I would have to pay 3300$ (I am not kidding!!:haha:) a year! The good thing is that the Blazer is a realtively big car/truck so it is licensed as a light truck and the taxation rate is by weight (about 200$/year) But -as SUVs and light trucks are very popular over here (almost as popular as in the United States) - they are trying to change the system to rip off car drivers again...
The result of the displacement-taxation is that there are a lot of high powered cars with tiny engines over here.

P.S.

the 6,2 / 6,5 Diesel is very popular over here. Especially m1009/m1008 trucks are sold for 6000$-13000$ (!), there are a lot of surplus dealers that earned a lot of money with these old army trucks.
Other very popular trucks are dodge rams (cummins), and for some strange reason: almost all Jeep vehicles. Wrangler, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee are a very common sight on the streets

OK I will make you cry $2.85 a gallon here today for diesel $14.25 for 20 liters! Regular 87 octane was $2.79 a gallon. Cheers mate!

Measuring rate here is by weight and vehicle class on a registration card. But that's to be changed, our government is creating a new measuring rate and pollution is a key factor. Don't know how it's gonna be, but I've heard rumors about weight and cubic inches to play big part in that new system. One good rumor is that those who live in country side, to who car is obligatory, are going get some "discount" on tax.

It's a good thing that vehicles are taxed by pollution, I just wish that government also supports alternate fuel sources, like bio-diesel. They do refine bio-diesel here in Finland, but only to export.

Maybe within this year we'll see what they come up...

just for curiousity, do you and smalltruckbigcid just scan these posts or do you actually read and comprehend what is wrote.

imiceman44 quoted CDA 455, who is in the U.S., in his reply, it was intended for him, not the original poster that was outside the U.S. (Germany)

i apologize if i sounded rude or harsh. it just seemed to me that y'all were insinuating that imiceman44 was ignorant of the fact that Germany is in Europe. i FEEL that since he quoted CDA 455 in his reply, it was apparent who he was talking to.

by the same token, if i sounded rude or harsh to you, the same could be construed by the replies to imiceman44.

but regardless, i apologize.
