Yesterday was a good day...and a bad day. (pics and video)

I was thinking of seeing if NAPA would warranty the joints, but I am not sure if I wantto use that brand again. I have an older set of 30 splines that I could run for a while that still have joints in them. I will see after I get some of this stuff sold and have a little extra $ to play with. I think it would be worth it to go with true spicer parts. Not looking at spending the dough on OX or any of the otehr 250 u-joints yet. Maybe in a few years(or a decade) I will get some of those $1800 CV style ones from Longfield.

Do you think the Spicer Life series 5-806X cold forged joints would have been strong enough to not fail in that situation? Everything I've read says they're about as strong as you can get without going to the OX, CTM and the like...

The way your u-joint failed doesn't inspire much confidence in the NAPA brand U-joints. I have greasable Spicers in my 30 spline set-up right now and haven't had any trouble yet...then again I haven't wheeled much lately either. :doah:

looks like you definatley need to step up to the spicer ujoints. I wouldnt' even consider running a napa joint with tires that big!

I got my 5-806X off of ebay for $34 each.

Sounds like I'll have to go search e-bay. I haven't used the NAPA joints before this and probably won't again unless I have to. I am going to try to warranty this one for a spare and hopefully never use it.

The set in my old 30 spline shafts lasted for 3 years and never gave me a sign of wearing out or even comming close to breaking. And it is not like I am easy on the truck. Hell, I jumped my crewcab with this axle under it and drove the piss out of it over the dunes in El Paso and even did the chile challenge in it a few years ago. I figured that would have broken something that trip , but it didn't.

cbbr: The sales lady didn't believe us when we got the truck on thursday and told her it was seeing dirt on Saturday. My wife took her pics yestreday and she laughed.

Got mine from this guy.

The first shippment was lost in the mail but he was really cool about it and sent me another set so I would have them before our Tellico trip. The day before we left the first shipment showed up, minus one ujoint. The package had ripped and the usps found one and sent it on its way. I paid him for the one extra and once again he was really good to work with.

Thanks John. There are several available for 35-40 bucks right now.

Tell your wife to be careful with that Xterra.....my wife flipped over on her side going less than 35-40 mph on a curve/turn that she takes everyday.

Haven't had any handling issues yet. It handles beter than our 2500HD chevy did. doesn't feel top heavy or have any excessivee body roll. Actualll hardly any roll at all.
