I've got a little tale to tell...
There once was a boy named Nick, who had a banana creme yellow Chevy K10,
It was an 83 and had an old leaky, tired, and carbed 305...
He decide it was time to freshen things up, and looked for a new carb...
he found a couple that were all right around $200 dollars, but didn't feel like spending that much money on century old technology...
Then one night, actually last night:D , he found a whole new MOTOR for sale in the CO 4x4 classifieds, and just like that, 24 hrs. later he had recieved a donor heart for his ol girl...
A 96 Chevy 4.3 V6 Vortec! This would fit the order perfect, as Nick needed to have a efficient motor for his summer trips back to cali...

It was a snowy night, so he wrapped up his cargo very carefully...;)

But there was just one small problem in this story... Nick lived in the dorms at CSU and had no garage, but never fear, for he and is roomate agreed that they could keep it, in their DORM ROOM!:flipoff2: so here she is, I'd go out on a limb to say this is the highest above the ground most chevy motors have been...11 Stories up!:eek1:

And nick starting the tear down of his new powerplant...

And now hopefully they will all live happily ever after:p:

Sorry for the lame story, but Im a little delerious from all the fumes in here:eek1:

you need to get yourself some tarps! :) i know what you mean, i have to drive an hour to work on my project truck b/c there's nowhere around campus for me to work. :( had i an elevator, i probably would have done the same thing if my wife were game, but it's kind of hard to get a 6.2L diesel V8 up a few flights of stairs. :D

Very nice! :)

Going to try and keep it Vortec CPI or going carbed?

Vortec 4.3 would be an interesting swap. Wonder how a Vortec 5.7 would swap in later, if the need arose...

We just rebuilt a 350 in the basement. It was pretty heavy for the 2 of us to carry up the stairs but we managed. Now it sits in place of an extremely tired 305. I really should have taken pics of us taking it up stairs. oh well.

So umm... I guess I might be a redneck?

i was just thinking last week what would people think if i wheeled a engine into my dorm room
i bet you got lots of looks bringing that down the hall

That's friggin' great..............local newspaper/TV station would love the story, I bet! .......................when you're done!!!

keeping it voretec, want the driveability of the FI, last night was the first night back from SB so everyone was wheelin **** in, hardly anyone Noticed

Yes.

Can you turn the crank with a ratchet/breaker bar on the big bolt at the center of the balancer?

ive tried with a little 3/8ths ratchet, I need a breaker bar...
If it's that stuck, there may not be much point in breaking it loose, since you'll have to tear it apart anyway to repair what's too tight.
