You might want to think twice before wheeling without doors

What about not having a rollcage? Most people put it far down on the mod list because it doesn't make the truck perform any better.

Safety over function. I should've had a cage in my truck long before I did. You never know when you are going to flop, most of them happen when you don't expect to roll.

x2 Ive been holding off on a rollcage, and never thought how dangerouse it really is to roll over without one. I have a child now and will not take her wheeling unless my truck is fully caged.

You would be suprised on how many people are stopping by the shop for cages, for the same reason. Safety first!

I dont have a roll cage and had my son out a mess of times... although I dont do rocks.. and mainly mud..... he loves it... however I do know my right foot is more generous when he is in the truck..

in about 2 years im going to do a crew cab swap... when I do... a cage will go in that though... :wink1:

I never wheeled without the doors until after I redid the rockers with 3x3 and installed a cage. Initially I did not install the "door bars" because it would be a pain to get in and out, but after one trip without the doors I changed my mind and installed the door bars. These start just below shoulder height at the B pillar and angle down to about 6" above the floor at the A pillar. I feel a LOT safer when going doorless with these bars and I have been in a situation where it kept a rock away from me. It would be pretty tough to get my foot outside of the cage, plus the rockers stick out around another 4" from the cage so I feel pretty safe.

WOW this makes me want to do a cage before I even do my 1 ton swap. Hopefully I can do it with my taxes!

Good thing the engine is about to get rebuilt and then comes cage and other stuff

Here's one (I'm sure many of you have seen this one)

I totally agree with you, I put a cage in my truck after the 1st wheeling trip

My eyes opened when I saw picture of my clubmembers 'Yota (post #88 on my build thread), and instantly made decision to build a cage, and now that my Suburban is in pieces it's easy to do.

IMO no cage is far more dangerous than no doors. that sheetmetal over your head doesn't hold up to being upsidedown (we've all seen the pics). There are many faults of saftey with a tube door, but when you've got a rig as big as we do, its not so easy to see out of. I plan on having tube doors that latch on the factory door pin but will hit the interior cage before they hit me. the only thing that makes me nervous is flopping onto a shrub or small tree and it comming into the cab, but theres no real way to avoid that. You west coasters probably dont even think about that.

Not at all, there's no shrubs or small trees on the west coast :surepal:.

hahaha. What I was trying to say what yall gots them deserts and rocks out there and arn't rubbin trees in the woods as much as us. :haha::haha:

There is actually tons of forest wheelin here, you just dont here about it much. Its all about rock crawling or desert racing here. I LOVE going to Big Bear Mtn. and wheel in the forest. Next week a group of guys from here and some buds of mine are running Miller Jeep trail up to the top of Alamo Mtn, it goes thru plenty of forest. Keep an eye out for pics in the regional forum after next weekend.

Some pics of a jeep run to Big Bear, my bud is in a Jeep club, My son and I did this run with him.

Ouch!!!

Look under the driver's side slider

That pic is throwing me off because it seems a lot of the truck is missing. I only counted three tires, then I started looking in the area where I expected the 4th tire to be and noticed there is a lot more than just a tire missing. Looks like he has 1/2 a front end, no fenders or anything, just a lot of green leaves. Am I missing something?

The truck flopped on top of a bush, the driver side tire and the rest of the truck is behind the bush.

You should hit up the Rubicon sometime. That's a great mountain trail.

I still don't have a cage in mine, but after my first rock trip it got moved way up the list. It'll have one before I take it out again. Too many ways for the unexpected to happen. Even things beyond your control like rocks shifting can throw the rig off balance.

yes it looks like a ifs truck. thats why you dont see a front axle. wheel is out of sight. Looks like a mini truck design, so it could be any number of trucks, but Im gonna guess a toyota.

Look at the rear leaf springs, they align with the frame.

no trees here either! :wink1:

:D

Hahahahah! I really put my foot in my mouth on this one.:haha: Acutally I KNOW there are trees in Oregon cause ive been watchin AX MEN on the history channel. hhahaha. Everytime I get to go out west its for work and I'm in LA. About 8 hours after being there I get a sinus infection (EVERY TIME!!) and my eyes water like crazy from the smog. I've driven down through san diego to TJ for a weekend and got to see a little country. Good times :D
