your dream burb?

I've been wondering what it would take (massive cut & weld) to put the drivers seat on top of the LF wheel, like an old VW bus; farther forward than the Chevy Van. Bucket seats in front, with seat two folding to allow 4x8 space. Maybe could be done to the same length as a Blazer. Pick & choose the drivetrain.
You haven't lived until you've driven trails sitting over the LF wheel.:D

I did with my chevy van converted to 4x4.
it's the ultimate when there is no hood in your way:D

I thought you ment the one at top truck a few years back, that was snapping 60 shaftss left right an center because he had a huge diesel.

I saw a 3115 CAT with tranny on ebay a year or two back, and got to dreaming...

Here’s my dream sub which is not complete but it gets the job done. Will post more info later.

'91 1/2 ton with 14 bolt detroit locked rear with 6" soft ride springs.

I am assuming the rack on top collapses for driving?
Interesting setup.

Imiceman44, yes the rod holder is removable for travel but I usually travel with it in the up position since it’s not much higher than the rods that are in front of my truck.

Nice to see you over here on this site Phil, I’ve noticed you been keeping a low profile on the other forms. I know you run with a great group but if you ever need help on your burb give me a shout I will be glad to give you a hand. Also congrats on getting the monkey off your back now I just need to get the one off mine.

I would say a 91 suburban, cheyenne trim. 2 vinyl benches, vinyl floors, manual windows and locks, very little electrical to foul up. Approx. 400 hp Cummins swap w/ built 4L80E, 203/205 doubler, 60 front w/ dedenbear knuckles, ARB, etc., 14BFF w/detroit and discs. Cut the rear overhang by about 12" or so but put in custom side glass and weld up all the body work to look like it came that way originally. About a 4" lift, tubbed fenders to fit 42" swampers. Rock sliders, custom bumpers, Warn winch up front. Spare tire mounted on rear cargo area floor with custom toolboxes and full cage. Yup, I think that'd do it!:D

I'll play. I'd like one with a duramax/allison/lomax running on veg oil, beefed up chvey D60/14BFF, linked with coilovers front and back, on 35's. Oh, and a fully custom, everything glassed interior completely soundproof with every amenity known to man.

Mine would have to be an 80s burb with a crew cab body and small bed put on it (like the new ORD truck) and a newer 3/4 ton like the $85,000 one with the Duramax to tow the one with the crew cab body. You can build them for cheaper than that though.

A 90 with the new style headlights.

Cummins swap or even settle for a tuned up 6.2

Sm465 or nv4500 for the expensive option.

Rockwells or better yet portals

38in tsl or iroks
Divorced 205 for equal shafts.

Cut the back and cap it behind the rear doors, open flatbed over whats left of the wheels with a nice tool box.

Remove the rear seats and build a nice sleeping area.

Functional....

I was thinking... graft all the sheet metal rear of the front seets from a suburban onto a 3+3 cab 1 ton. Ultimate tow rig, 4 rows of seets (1 removable, 1 fold down), and room for a 4x8 sheet of plywood. Anybody ever seen someone try this?

I seen one at a local car lot about a year ago. It was a burban with an 8 foot bed behind the barn doors. And it was a dually. I did not have my camera on me though. I went back later but it was sold. I looked the frame over and looked to be a real clean job on the stretch.

As for my dream burb it would be an older (mid 80's) 2500 with barn doors. Three rows of seats and all the comforts of home. A/C, heat (front and rear) T.V. for the kiddies. Would love a late model duramx with a banks six gun system. Allison trans, Atlas four speed t-case for extra torque when needed. Dana 60 front 14 bolt FF rear. 4:10 gears for towing. That is basically my dream build. Someday maybe? Then a narrowed custom burb on rocks to put behind it of course LOL.

Just started building mine...this is what I have
1983 diesel sub 4x4
12 valve cummins
nv-5600 trans
Atlas 4.3
blazin offroad rear bumper
full length rock sliders

And this is what I just bought...
dana 60 front
14ff rear both with 4.10 gears, but I got a new set of 5.38's
H1 hummer beadlocks recentered with 42" tsl's
psc hydro steering
