Your thoughts on 77 3/4 sub DD

Bob, my 75 burb has a 350/350/203 with 3/4ton running gear with 4.10 gears and 33" tires and I am getting about 12mpg if i keep my foot out of it. My 203 was originally a full time tcase but I installed a part time kit in it and NEVER saw a mpg difference what so ever. I'm the same way, kids, wife, camping, hunting and all the crap that comes along with them, plus its MY daily driver. I wouldn't sell it for nothing.

So IMO, for $1500, if you feel that its worth it, I'd go for it :thumb:

What are your concerns? Weak or fuel hog. Or both. Will anything swap in easy?

bob

Fuel hog. 203 is a fine TC. Only drawback is it full time. In theory its gonna cost more gas to run it 4 wheel all the time instead of rear only when you are on the road. A friend of mine has a late 70s K20 pickup. I am not sure about the trans, probably a 350 but I know it had a 203. He needed a new transmission. He was able to find the trans he wanted, off of a low mileage wrecked truck, that had a 205 behind it. Instead of getting an adapter he just transplanted them both. He told me that he got about 3-4 more mpg after that when he was in rear only. I had forgotten that there was a kit to part time the 203. Of course according to Muddytazz it doesn't get you any thing. So I don't know where the difference is, IE why my friend saw an improvement and he didn't Is it between a 203 and 205, the fact that one was a truck and the other a burb, or was the trans swap as well? That was several years ago and I can't recall but the new trans with the 502 might have been a 400 instead of a 350. Probably no way to tell, but no reason not to buy the burb for $1500.

Well, if all goes as planned I will have this next week.
