Something else I learned. There is a "middle" position on the fuel tank selector switch, that will prevent the truck from starting. It took 2 days, a new neutral safety switch, new ignition switch and a LOT of cussing and throwing tools to figure that out. Just figured that out about 20 minutes ago. I'm gonna go put the dash and steering

I found that out the had way also. i switched tanks- 10 seconds later the engine shut off. so as i coasted to a stop, i put 2 and 2 together and tried switching back to the other tank, but i could tell the switch didnt move as far as it should have.
i can see the wife bumping it when she throws her purse in the truck and causing a big headache.
 
Joe, I thought you were out in sunny Ca. What's with the snow?

And just out of curiosity, which is better, hot sand or snow.....

He's up in snow country in Grass Valley, CA not sunny southern CA:D
Still it's a nice area, not too bad with the snow and not too hot in the summer.

Looks like it's deep enough to make most people in stock trucks stay at home.
 
I don't know why, but certain people or names on this forum tend to stick with me.

And, when I don't see a post for a while, I worry.
Not exactly sure why. Odds are there is nothing I could do anyway, and if most of them died, I would never hear about it unless posted here.

But, I was brought up that you take care of your friends.
That was it.
You took care of them.
No time limit, distance limit, or anything else was implied.

And, by the strictest definition, few, if anybody, here could be called friends.

Never met them, never been to their houses, don't know where most live, never saw most of their pictures.

Quite frankly, from some of the pictures I have seen, I'd probably meet most of them at the door with a rifle if they came visiting late at night.:eek1:

Despite all that, for some stupid reason, I find myself considering some of the Tards here as at least some weird form of friend.

So, when I had not seen any posts from kidjethro for a while, I figured I would send him a PM to see if he got moved OK.

Then I figured, what the heck, I would pop Zeus back up. If he is around, he would certainly see that.

Hope you are doing OK Joe.

Now, if I can figure out what happened to newyorken.........
 
I'm fine. No updates because I'm in georgia and the truck is in california. Gonna cost me $1400 to ship it out here. Hopefully ill have it out here by the first of the year. This thread will come back to life then.
 
Glad you're OK. I figured you had moved, and knew you had had to leave the truck, but I didn't remember seeing you anywhere here, and wanted to check in.

Last time I saw a post, you were snowed in in Ca.

You know, with gas prices the way they are now, it would still be cheaper to drive it, but not by much.

Figure 2,000 miles, 10MPG, $3.00 per gal.
Thats $600 just in gas. Figure in lodging, food, you would still come out ahead.
But, you figure in the aggravation factor of driving that truck on interstates and long hours, its darn near a wash....

Wouldn't do to have you climb out in Ga. and swear you are never driving that thing again:laugh:

Trust me, I've been there.
Had a 60 model CJ5 that I loved to drive. It was my DD, my off road vehicle, hunting vehicle, everything.
I lavished stuff on it like you folks do you K5s.

Every hunting season, we would take the top and the windshield off and tow it to the swamp for hunting season.

One year, my father bought a new car just before we opened the camp in the swamp.
Forgot to have a hitch put on.

Next morning about 1:00, we went to hook it up, no hitch.

I drove it to the swamp.
18 degrees with small amounts of sleet.

Spun out 3 times due to ice on bridges.
Finally went in the ditch because my hands were so cold I could not hold the wheel.

While I thawed out in the car, my father drove it for a while.
When I could hold the wheel, I caught up to him in the car.

After that, we rotated back and forth.
Took 3 hours to get there.
When everybody started out to hunt, I rode with someone. I told them I never wanted back in that Damn icebox again.

Of course, by that afternoon, I made him take me back to camp so I could drive it......
But for while, I hated it.
 
Have you looked on Pirate for shipping? Sometimes guys are headed from place to place with big empty trailers. Maybe you could get it really close then just pick it up and drive the last few hundred miles to Georgia... :dunno:
 
A small update-

Just ordered the new front shaft from High Angle Driveline. Long slip, 42* CV with 1410 at the axle.

Now I've gotta figure out how to get the thing from California out here to Georgia. :doah:

Well that ought to work for the front dshaft! I hope you figure out how to haul the truck soon so you can enjoy it again.
 
I just got off the phone with the auto transport broker. Truck should be picked up in Cali within 1-7 days and arrive here in Georgia about 7 days after that. Because its to big to fit on a conventional auto transport truck and has to go on a flat-bed, it costs a bit more. $1896... :eek1: that's a lot, but it'll be sooo nice to finally get it out here. :woot:

Maybe you could do it Johnny Cash style. Just get someone to disassemble it and ship the parts UPS for the small stuff and motor freight for the big stuff....
