Heck, I'm still running my chipped LB7 bought new in late Dec '02 (smoking deal, one of the last '02s). Fully loaded CC 4x4 2500HD for $35k all-in and out the door. So far, it's been a good 'un. First time I ever bought what I really wanted instead of just what I needed. And I've never been happier with a vehicle in my life.

I simply can't stand the price on what the new ones cost. $75k+ is just too damn much for a truck period. And if I can't pay it off in a year, I'm not doing a deal. So that leaves me with my '02 until it or I die I guess. Good thing I'm happy with it.

Dean has racked up the kilometers on his 02 as well. Over 500km I think right Dean?
They have great longevity if taken care of.

Way to go Dean! :eek::waytogo:

Can’t say they have been trouble free. We have done a lot of work on Colby’s, but it was a 1000.00 dollar farm truck when we got it. Mine has been really good. We bought it new. One set of injectors at 369 that i’m not sure it even needed then. Does need another one now because of high return rate on one, but it still runs like a top and no smoke.
The thing I like about them is they are easy to work on compared to the newer trucks and no emissions!

Thoughts on what type of coolant to use? I know it calls for dexcool longlife, but Dean I know a few yrs ago you did the extensive flush recommended by Luke, and wondered what that involved and what you used then, and was it a brand Luke recommended? Doesnt the long life turn corrosive after like 5-6 years? I cant find a record of when mine has been changed.

I just dumped it flushed with a garden hose ,refilled with Dexcool. I did test the ph on the old fluid and it was still Ok. Luke did say that test was SOSO but he also said send it! Lol!
Colby’s engine has been apart three times since we have had it and I can’t see anything that looks like corrosion on the heads or anything else. Buddy Lorne says run Dex.
The resson I was concerned was that Russel had a Lb7 that was corroded. He bought that engine used and who knows what was in it?

It could be the original, i have no proof otherwise??
Ill try to do a pH check on it.

That's something almost nobody remembers to change.

pH is 8.0, a bit high of neutral ,but not bad. Color was a dull pink, but not dirty looking.
Level was a bit low.
Truck is fun the more I drive it.
Noticed when its cold, just a fraction of a second before it shifts at 1-2-3 it seems to take away power, but not once its warmed up....shifts are real good, but just seems like this shouldn't be with an Allison?

Whenever they did injectors it would have been dumped out I would think. LB7 You have to for sure.

LLY LBZ and so on maybe not all of it but some anyway.

I was told by the salesman, it had injectors changed, but after seeing the records, I think that may have been glowplugs?

Normal... they don’t shift smoothly till they are warm. Mine never has.
