‘75 Fullvert Blazer- K5 Cody’s build- 8.1 swap***C10’s in the park*** Back to assembly.

Restomod build for a late friend
Just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration here with this 75. Because of your posting this, I got to thinking, I should stop and ask about that 75 I've been driving past for years thats 2 miles from my house. Short version, guy bought it new in July of 75 when he was 24. Special ordered it, checked off all the boxes himself. He gave me the original dealer invoice. I'm not a fan of Moss Gold or the black top, I like the colors on yours a lot better. But, of all the people who knocked on his door wanting to buy it I was the chosen one. Sadly it's a very typical CO truck and it's really rusty. Body isn't near as solid as yours. I'm scared to pull the carpet up by the tailgate. But, I'm gonna try to do this truck justice sooner than later. Don't mean to hi-jack, just thanks!

Dude, 2 miles from your house? I've been back up here for a couple of months and thought I knew were all the squarebody's from Elderidge to McIntyre. Yes, I go trolling around taking different routes around the area. I guess I missed that one, which street was it on?

Thanks! plan is to go back to original someday, after all 30 patch panels this thing needs are stitched in lol.

Nice! It was over off Kendrick just north of 52nd a little ways. There's a rough but original 74 over here too, orange and white, also very rusty, been after that guy for a couple years but no call back yet.

X2
Get that on your driveway!

Thanks yeah someday I hope. Anyway, back to the scheduled program!

Awesome. I had not hit up on those couple of streets over there. I’ve seen the orange one over on 48th. There’s a pickup on that street too at another house in the back. There was a first gen K5 with a FWC close to your place on 48th between Indiana and Elderidge but the last time I went by there I didn’t see it.

Could be the rod that leads from the rack. I broke one on my '75. They are different between the tilt and non-tilt version.
The broken rack is on top of that gear. It’s a non-tilt, so maybe that’s the difference.
Did you get the rod out of position? Did you have to punch a hole in the column, or had someone already removed the ignition cylinder before you?

Martin
The old cylinder was still in there, I pulled it. When I pulled the cylinder out I heard something fall inside the column.

Man that a great story! I’ve been trying to save any of them that I can.

Well, I probably wouldn't have bought it or even asked had you not posted this. No s--t. I hadn't thought about it in months, til you started fixing this one up. I was looking at yours and thought, thats cool as hell. I've never had a 73-75 that I could drive, always wanted one. It's three grand I 'don't really have' right now, definitely shouldn't have spent it on another truck, but fug it. You live once. Least I'm in good company! Lol

Finally found the part. It’s the ignition rack for a non-tilt steering column. Now I have to figure out how to get this thing apart so I can replace it.

Bingo. Time for column tear down. Been 15 or more years since I did one and it was a tilt unit so I’m of zero help for step by step. The jist is you’ll have to go as far as getting the turn signal switch out of the way for access. From there on it’s foggy.

It’s still not the right part. I am still searching.

Here is what’s left of mine. The side hook is broken and the grooves on the front broke off. But is smaller than the first picture I posted.
