‘75 Fullvert Blazer- K5 Cody’s build- 8.1 swap***C10’s in the park*** Back to assembly.

Restomod build for a late friend
So I would like to hear some opinions on a fuel pump to run for this vortec/q-jet combo. I’d rather not swap the tank since I just swapped in a brand new one this summer.

I’m thinking a frame mounted pump and regulator in the engine bay. Then wired via relay to a keyed 12v source.

Any pump recommendations?

Do the vortec blocks not have provisions for a mechanical fuel pump?

I don't have a specific recommendation, but my only recommendation would be not to cheap out on fuel pumps. I'd get Walbro if they make a pump for low psi.

You don't need much pump. Frame mount like you mentioned and keep it at or below the bottom of the tank. The pump instructions should also have a limit on how far the pump should be from the tank.

I had a simple inline adjustable regulator on my K5. It was in the hose just before the carb. https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Gasket-97...uel+Pressure+Regulator&qid=1672502496&sr=8-15 It worked fine with the mechanical pump.

One thought is if you put the fuel pump on a hidden switch, it would give you some theft deterence.

I was going to go with a little more fancy regulator that had a gauge in it.

A buddy used this kit and was pretty happy with it. Also let’s me run a return back to the tank.

Also found this at O’Reillys. Seems like a good pump.

Since the dash is cut on this truck, the wife got ma a “classic” looking head unit for my birthday today.

It’s got am/fm/BT/USB/aux port and even takes an SD card if you want. Should be fine once I get a good quality 6x9 up in the dash.

Eventually I’d like to actually fix the dash and get a Retrosound unit, but this will definitely work until that time comes.

Looks nice!
HBD Greg!

The factory wheels on my super duty are just like those, maybe even Alcoas too. Mine are getting lots of corrosion under the clear coat. Some day I might do something about them. I don't know if it would be worth sending to an actually polishing place or just replace with some better, newer take offs when I get to mine.
Did you do that all by hand or do you have a buffer?

Little bit of an update for this one too:

The engine is down to its last few “starts” before it may not start again. It’s knocking pretty bad at start ups, and very underpowered when driving it. So it’s parked for now while I clean up and reseal the vortec block. As soon as some funds free up I’m going to be purchasing a fuel pump and regulator for this, and then start the engine swap process.

Was able to drive it one last time to work last week before it took a turn.

Also swapped the dog dishes back on. Not a fan of the wagons and MT’s.

This was full throttle on the last day I drove it to work. Super sluggish.

So surgery went good on Tuesday. Face is massively swollen so I’ve been off work most of this week. Yesterday I was feeling the best, so I crept out to the garage and started cleaning the vortec block.

The timing chain kit I bought was wrong, so the correct one should be here Saturday or Sunday.

Sprayed the block with engine degreaser, then started scraping the grime with a gasket scraper to clear off the large crap. Then sprayed it again and hit it with a wire brush. After that I sprayed it down with a soap/water combination to clear the rest of the debris. Once the entire blocked was mostly cleaned I sprayed it with brake clean to clear any leftover oils in preparation for paint.

Did a test section before we headed out to do some family stuff.

Going to start masking stuff off tomorrow morning and see how close I can get to painting it.

Wasn’t able to get to the garage this morning so I hit it this evening.

Final coats of paint are on. Need to start cleaning accessories and brackets and then reassemble.

Still need to buy a few missing things, but not too far off from swapping it in.

I have a vortec from a 99 Tahoe and it has the provision for mechanical pump and even has the pushrod hole, I’d like to know the rhyme or reason for which ones have it and which ones don’t

Yeah me too! That would have been a big help to me and my wallet.
