‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

I like having the chain to capture the axle to the frame when using the hi lift to change a tire. You've seen me do it a few times

A chain isn't going to break on you, unlike a strap eventually will. And if the chain does break, it's possible to put the hook back on the (now shorter) chain. Then you'll have two chains instead of one! I wouldn't try to rig up a broken tow or snatch strap.

One thing I carry that you may not have is a spare set of front axle shafts for my 10 bolt axle. Never broken one yet, but if you ever come across a set in your junkyard scrounging, put them in the back, since you already carry the hub nut socket and you have some spare gear oil with you. It's real easy to slide a good shaft in there (no pun intended - Dueling:haha: -) You could carry an extra set of rear shafts and c-clips and all the tools to take the rear brakes apart, but man that's a lot to carry.

I have 2 rear axle shafts in the back and a front driveshaft.

I don't have a front axle shaft although I have broken a few. When I break a front shaft I can just unlock the hub and limp back to camp in 3wd. It's not like the rear where the tire slides out when it snaps.

That damn chain is so heavy!
Ok i guess I'll take it just because it has more than one use.

-I can hook it to the highlift as a come-along
-I can use like Superbro to lock the suspension when changing a tire
-I can use it to add a few feet to a recovery strap or change the geometry of the pull.
-I can strap it to my front bumper so it makes obnoxious cow bell noises.

Don't forget that you can use it to chain your JIMMY to your buddy's little Toyota and pull him all around the desert. :D

That little Yota does amazingly well.
It does things that I can't do and have pulled me out more times than I have pulled it out.
It's a lot lighter, has a longer wheel base, and EFI.

Except last trip I was king of the hill. :D

WHAT???

Chains break all the time, and they're dangerous as hell. At least when a strap breaks, nobody dies.

Thanks and Welcome to CK5 noob! :D :waytogo:

A truck gun, a pistol and ammo.
That would be in with my personal gear, not so much the truck stuff.

The mods kind of frown when we post guns & ammo outside the shooting range.
Not that there's any mods that review this thread anymore...:D

This is my favorite pic of the weekend. My bride-to-be taking the wheel and a XJ Heep on it's side in the background.
