‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

No they were street hummers. H3's in the front, H2's in the midle, H1's in the rear. I think out of the dozen only 3 made it w/o breaking down.

That's awesome. And there yall were with your $3,000, 25+ year old GM trucks kicking their butts. I love it! :woot:

Well, I overheated & had to fix the lower rad hose on the trail, Chickenrammit broke his rear drive shaft in half, the Jeep made it the farthest and we had to turn around.
We didn't complete a trail that day.
I don't feel like I kicked anybody's butt, I came back to camp with my tail (pipe) between my legs.

Dang. Must be a tough trail. Or just some seriously bad luck. Seems like whenever you see someone else broke down you're more likely to break too before the day is over. What's up with that? :dunno:

...So I :grind:off my tail pipe where I smashed it between a rock & my tire.Tailpipe.jpg

I am going to replace my radiator hose with this one I made out of 2 hoses.

The problem I have is the radiator is the big 3 core for the diesel. The hose diameter is 2". I don't have a diesel in there I have a small block. On the SB the water pump diameter is more like 1 5/8" , I can't find a hose that works so I bought them both and cut & spliced them together.

The question I have for you guy's:
Should I ditch the thermostat?

I am running the 180* and it works but I overheated on the last trail run. I think I overheated because the hose leaked and I lost too much coolant, not a mechanical failure.

Keep the thermostat in case it gets cold out in the desert one morning. It will let the engine go ahead and warm up. As far as overheating, the old thermostat could have been on the way out. I say get a new one. That's my opinion.

Thanks.
The old one is fairly new and held a steady 180* after I fixed the hose for the rest of the day. I opted to leave it in there & drive it to work for a while and keep a close eye on it.
Man it sure is louder with the tailpipes chopped off! :D I like it! :D

Well last weekend I :grind: the Bondo off the roof. I had holes in it from a bunk ass light bar I mounted up there years ago.
I :weld: the holes :grind: them flat. No more bondo, just primer & cammo. :pimp:

Then I checked out my carb.
- I found that the high idle screw was in so far that it wouldn't let my choke open.I have a manual choke. It was like I screwed it shut!:doah:
-I switched the linkage on the throttle pump to a shorter stroke. This gives me a better response when I first stomp on the skinny pedal.:waytogo:
- I switch my Vacuum advance to the full vacuum side.
:k5:OOooooo........________ Way better now!

I think my next trip will be the first weekend of Nov. to Coral Canyon OHV.
Anybody want to go?

YES!!!! haha I wish man, good to see you making progress on your rig while mine sits idle...

Rock sliders

Rock sliders 002.jpg

I've been a lot of rock crawling lately. I sure could use some sliders...

......

...so I picked up a 2x4 from the industrial metal supply. I thought of it as a good omen when I saw that it was stamped 03/2011. :waytogo:

Now I have something to keep me busy.

Rock sliders

Dang, I think my thread died...

I worked all day making a rock slider.

rock sliders 003.jpg

I welded it to the body on both sides of the TS.

rock sliders 004.jpg

I cut & welded it across the bottom of the door.

It is strong.

I took a bunch of pics all day, then my phone died. I can't get it to turn on so I can't get the pics from it.

nice update, looking to do some sliders ASAP, I already have the material, just missing a whole lot of stuff for other stuff to get done. Need to finish body lift cause the sliders on getting frame mounted. I like the tucked up look of slider rockers though :)

I don't think I've ever seen a slider welded directly to the fender like that. It will be interesting to see how these sliders work off-road. Hopefully you can post some pics of them in use.

Rear fender trim

JIMMY got bashed up on some rocks

I replaced the taillights and hammered out a few dents.

I cut the curve to mirror the existing curve. This is before I rolled the edge.

This is after I rolled the edge.

I also welded the bullet holes. NO MO BONDO.

tore down my 2wd steering box tapped for hydro assist and rebuilt it like new

picked up a 14 bolt out of a 2wd c20 with a camper package so i didn't have to move the spring perches and shock mounts bearings and gears in great shape.
IMG_1062.jpg

after much debate and lots of searching i found that the welded to a softball sized spider spool was the choice for me
IMG_1080.jpg

Installed the DIY4X flip kit and shackles and new polys
IMG_1079.jpg

i don't have pictures of it but i ground about 1 1/2" off the 14 bolt so it's only about 1/2" lower then the 12bolt on was on 33's
picked up some CL 35's and 8 lugs for 200 bucks and got the rear installed
IMG_1082.jpg

pulled the front out so i could do the gear change.
