‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Super sick! Driving on the trail and around town is bad ass!

The only thing that I don't like about it is highway driving. When I let off the gas at highway speed, I can hear the 208 complaining about it.
that makes me happy with the 4:56 decision. Now i just gotta get them outta the box and into the truck.

Not to get off topic, But my truck does that at highway speeds also. I have a 700r4, 205 and 4:56's....And when i let off the gas the 205 makes a good bit of noise.

Anyone know the causes of this?

Hmmm. . . . my 205 does it too but i have a sm465 in front of it an always thought that it was the spline coupler but im pretty sure the autos don't use them, so it could be the idler shaft.

I think in PBlaze's case it's probably slop in the chain, they are known for that.

I describe it as Darth Vader breathing heavily between moments of awesomeness.

Problem solved...Thanks:waytogo:

:haha:

I don't know how to solve the problem. According to my speedometer the transfer case thinks it's going 85-90mph when you are actually moving at 65-70.
Everything is running at higher RPM's. The driveshaft used to spin 3 to 1 with the tires, now it's 4.5 to 1 so everything inside the 208 is spinning faster than ever.

I'm sure there are things to do to fix this. If one had planned to drive on the highway a numerically lower gear ratio would have been a better option.
My fix is to tow it to the trail.

I must have read over what you're talking about earlier. I'm kind of confused. Why is everything all screwed up? Did you just change something? How come you don't change out the speedometer gear inside the Tcase? My truck currently does the same, I think it came originally with 3.08 gears, then a PO swapped in 3/4ton axles with 3.73s. I'm going to 4.88s and 38" tires, after that I'm fixing my speedo gear.

He doesn't care about the speedo being off its the fact that the tcase is spinning so much faster then it's used to, to drive highway speeds.

There isn't anything screwed up. I had 3.08's and have been wheeling for years on 33's- 35's. When I decided to put a locker in the front I wanted to swap to 4.56's. I couldn't afford the gears, so I just threw in the locker. No problems.
Finally I got a set of 4.56's and Supermotard750 helped me install them in his garage. He lives about 65miles away from me and my test drive was on the interstate. I wasn't used to hearing the T-case noises. I knew it would be different, and Oh boy it is!
When I let off the gas at highway speed I can hear the sounds of gears working,When I get back on it it takes a moment for the driveshaft to catch back up them WhahhhBahhhhh!!! :waytogo:
Driving around town and on the trail, it has so much more get up & go then it did before.

I do care about the speedo being off, I just haven't had a chance to work on it. It off for the better, at least I won't get a speeding ticket if I use the speedometer anymore.

Can't Np208's do 90+!!!???

Who gives a damn if it spins faster, now.
Yes I went 75-80 according to my GPS so my 208 was going faster than the speed of light according to my calculations. I think I saw it in front of me for a brief moment.

It makes a scary noise when it spins that fast.
