‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Lol that's what the crossover is for so when your on an angle the fuel doesn't slosh over into the barrels those are bowl vents

well I messed with the carb all day and in the end I took out the spring loaded needle seats and it runs good.

Yah he had the offroad needles.

Idk what's up with your carb Paul, mine seems to run great :dunno:

Have you ever tested your floats? They can go bad and take on gas and not float right. I bought new floats, the rebuild kit, and off road needles.

It says "junkyard" in the thread title. Go to a junkyard and get a TBI setup.

I don't see any reason to run any kind of carb besides a Quadrajet in a truck with a stock motor that's going to be driven off-road. Other carbs may run better or give you more performance on the street, but they will let you down when you're going up or down a hill. Or if you're on a sidehill. I think you can get a q-jet from the junkyard cheap and rebuild it cheap and be happy about it.

Were you running the offroad needle kit?
It came with the needle seats in 06. It was supposed to be a THUNDER SERIES offload carb. It worked pretty good for a few years.

Thanks for the chat time Adam.

OK. Maybe I will... I still think your the best " best man" ever!

Time for a change indeed.

For now it runs good with the stock needles that's where it will stay this week. We'll see how it does in the dunes this weekend....

Well my OCD kicked in and I bought new floats and ordered new spring loaded needle seats.

I'll try to set this pig 1 more time before I personally escort it to the scrap yard.

...I'm still going to pick up a Q jet next time I'm down at the JY.

I need to learn more about TBI stuff. I need edgimication on that subject. I wouldn't know exactly what to look for.

I can help out.

Thanks brutha :waytogo:

FYI- I just got off the phone with Vic Edelbrock himself and he told me to set the floats at 7/16" like normal, and DO NOT DEPRESS the springs when taking the measurement.

This contradicts what I've read on the intro net.

-In the link mentioned before the OP said he depressed the springs to set the floats to 7/16".

- In the NorCal_Chris thread he said set the floats to 5/8". I PM'd him to ask if he depressed the springs to measure & he couldn't remember but said probably not.

For now I'm gonna go with what Vic said.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Disclaimer: The tech guy was not really Vic Edelbrock

BTW, I love Summit racing. 3-4 day shipping arrives in 2 days!

:haha:

Hey dave talked to vic and got a pic

He told me about the new e-street system at the power tour, but I didnt manage a pic wit him :doah:
