‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Now you're wife's on the house like "where's that new pack of Sharpies I just bought the other day? I can't find them anywhere."

I borrowed the plasma cutter from work. The sharpies were a little harder to find. I had to go to 3 stores to find a blue one and it was in a 3 pack.

After coffee time I'm going to go out to the shop and cut em out.

Homebrew tabs. Since I'm not too proud to show my mistakes the tabs in the back were made yesterday. I drilled the holes out too big so I had to start from scratch this morning. The ram uses a 3/4" bolt, I drilled a 1" hole.:doah:

The new tabs are a thicker gauge. Still made from scrap, I took a little more time making them symmetrical and pretty.

I got my Tie rod/ ram mount all tacked together.

I sold the "pet project" backyard Heep and made a few bucks off the deal.

So I ordered some 15x10 8 lug black steelies. They should be here soon.

Still had some loot left so I decided to give DIY4x some business and ordered a shackle flip and switch with hangers.

I couldn't decide if I should get 4.5" or 6" shackles. I figure the flip and switch will raise the rear a little bit, the 13 bolt will too. I want to keep a low center of gravity, so I don't want too long of shackles.
I'm aiming for about 3" above stock height.

The thing I'm concerned about is I read some reviews about 4.5" shackle hangers that flip over after full droop. The fix was to get the 6" hangers.
I don't know for sure, I'm waiting for Kert to call me back.

Anybody have experience on the subject?

I'm running the 6" but I found that when I had my original spring pack I had a bad angle that the 4.5" would have solved but once I pulled a leaf out of my pack it gave me a better angle. All in all I would say it depends on individual situation. But if you going stock style springs go 4.5"

The springs are for a 2.5" lift, with an additional stock spring added in the pack. Not too long ago I took them apart and re arched them.

Pretty much stock.:dunno:

4.5 will work best in my experience. I have the 6" DIY shackles now but I plan to go to the ones that are 1/2" longer than stock in the near future. I've never had the shackles invert and I don't see that happening with stock style springs. The reasons I want a shorter shackle again are that I don't like the forward rake they give the truck, and they rotate the pinion up towards the transfer case and now my angle is no longer optimal after my trans/t-case swap-n-drop. I originally got them for more spring travel and the do seem to ride better, but unless you're going to 63s, I don't think the 6" shackle is the best option.

Wait now, the 4.5" flip will give you 6.5" of lift with your 2" lift springs. I don't think that's what you want. Could you rustle up some stock 52s from the junkyard? They may flex/ride better than the lift springs you're running now, and they would give you only 4.5" of lift.

I'm not familiar with the DIY flip, but ORD has a 2.5" flip that would compliment your current front springs, I think.

Come to think of it, you can use 54" rears with the ORD flip. I don't know if Kert's kit can do that, but that's what I would do. Stock 54s with a 2.5" flip and 4.5" shackles.

You just blew my mind! :eek1::confused: Of coarse I can get springs from the junkyard.
I'll have to talk to Kert about this.

Cool video, Paul!!! :D

Thanks Mike, I'm here to entertain.

Paul I just thought of this. I have a pair of brand new 4.5" or 5" or whatever shackles that I ordered from Kert earlier this year but never installed. All I've done is spray painted them black. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks AB but my order has already been processed.
At first I was going to home brew some but then I figured for the price I would be better off saving my time.

My rims are here!

The specs are 15x10, 4.25" BS. :woot:

Almost time...

He's running a 44 he shouldn't have to grind anything. Same calipers he has on his 10b with 15" wheels

Have fun grinding!

Martin
I always do!:D

I still need to grind off my rivets on the rear shackle hangers.

Shiny!!!!!
Yea, I wanted flat black but glossy was the only option. They will dull down after my 1st run.

I just got off the phone with Kert. Sounds like the 4.5" shackle will be perfect for my set up.
