‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Great work dude!

Looking forward to some more hard core wheelin pics now :D

I think it somehow actually looks lower than before for some reason. Maybe it's just the way it's parked.

Hey whatever happened to that old Dodge truck you had?

I still need to install the shackle flip, that will lift it.

YellowK20 bought the Dodge, he had a guy come pick it up. I even chopped him a new roof and left it in the bed.

Gus bought it I thought
Yea, Gus from Alaska.

Sweet deal Paul.
Your turn bro. :D

Now I'm in Club 57. :woot:

I still have a lot of work to do. I need to cycle the suspension, make upper inboard shock mounts, and possibly lift the front end more for clearance. Maybe modify my fenders too.

I didn't show the issues I had with the hydro assist ram mount.

Right now I'm a little burned out so I am going to take the day off.

I'm still rebuilding my axles. Gonna be a while before they get in. You're inspiring me though

Glad to hear it champ. :waytogo:

I'm thinking about my suspension meow. Like AB said it looks lower. I didn't put any shocks on it, the shocks I have wouldn't lift it anyway.

Currently I don't have enough clearance in the front. The XJ pitman arm can contact my leaf spring at Left turn full stuff. My ram assist mount only has about 2 3/4" of straight up travel before it contacts the cross member.
I think the solution will be to go up to a 4" lift.

My next move... I think I will install the shackle flip and remove that old leaf I added and see how much I need to lift the front.

I am still considering the 54" rear springs, and sliding the kit back too.

Any thoughts or opinions?

2 days in a row and no work on JIMMY.
Today I was supposed to clean up shop before the next phase starts. I don't know what it is, I'm just not motivated.

I need something inspiring...

... Something to get me fired up!

...something shiny...

There it is!! :D:pimp:

Nice work PIY4X!

Will that give you 4" of lift or 2.5" or what?

Also I still have the cross tied shackles for that flip if you want them. They would be stronger than those two piece jobs. :deal:

Kert said the shackle flip will net + 4.5" to 5". That's a little too high up for me so some custom spring work will have to take place to lower it back down.

The front needs to go up a few inches. I need more clearance above the steering ram.

I will have to find the perfect balance between the 2.

Sure, I'll take 'em!

I guess I'm gonna put JIMMY in the back yard again today. I've been driving to the store and around the neighborhood without shocks and bouncing on my leaf springs. It's actually not a bad ride, I can't wait till I actually have some decent shocks on it.
The gear slop is gone and it doesn't make that growling noise anymore. The 10 bolt pinion yoke was loose as a church whore.

I'll post up pics soon. Time to :grind:

A few hrs in and I have the springs off, stock hanger gone, frames cleaned up and painted, removed the extra leaf out of the pack and threw some paint on that too. I also put some Rust Kill red on the DIY4X hangers.

It shouldn't be down too long. :D

I got my shackle hangers installed today.I didn't even take off the gas tank! :D

Meow I'm going to play with various spring combinations until I'm satisfied with the ride height and shackle angle.

I took 2 springs out of my previous set up. It was a 2 1/2" Superlift springs a few seasons ago and they started to sag.
I added a leaf a little while ago but today I removed it +1 more out of the pack.

Call it what you will but at the end of the day it sits 2" taller from the tire to the wheel well. Now I need to measure for shocks.

The rear sits higher than the front but that's part of the plan. I still need to lift the front a little bit for high steer and ram assist clearance.

Technically I can drive it, just in case. :D

After that's done, you need to get crazy on that old Jeep. You'll be just like ol' NorCal Chris before too long.

Are you going to fix the Jeep up for your wife to take on the trails? My wife has an old CJ and she just loves that old thing. It smokes like a freight train and rides like a dump truck, but I know she would get rid of me before she would part with her old Heep.

That old Heep belongs to my buddy. He just got it. The 10 bolts might be going on it. :D

I had to move a bunch of firewood and a broke ass Heep to get driveway status back.

I have a set of 4" Softride springs for the front coming along with a set of cross-tied shackles for the rear. These rear shackles are going to the front.
