‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Have you gone chromo yet?

Not on this axle. I had some chrome alloy shafts in my 10 bolt rear but that's long gone.

I figure if I need to dump a bunch of loot on the front axle I'm gonna start looking for a 60.

Man I was just wondering if you had gotten settled in and how it was going. Good to see your shop is set up. Maybe there will be less breakage in this new chapter. You know, I heard there were some D60 front axles in Texas still. Keep us posted on how it's going over there.

I picked up a set of tenfactory chromo 30 splines for my front axle with spicers never installed in an axle for $200. Inner and outer shafts. I thought that was pretty good.

Guy wanted $400 when I first pmd him.

Splicer Aclw shaft assembly

I just paid $230 for the complete driver side assembly.
That's the 30 spline inner, the U joint and the standard outer from Splicer.
I figure it is what it is. I know my weakest link and it's the same as the 10 bolt.

BTW I have a package coming from DIY4X...:D
:D::popcorn:

Thanks for posting the videos Jeff.:waytogo:

Sorry to see you caught that Jeep thing that's been going around.:haha::D

If you ever decide to head north to do some wheeling there's a few of us in the central OK region. I'm about 3 hours from Dallas. My junk is usually ready for a trip.

Heck yea, thanks for posting up. I'm definitely looking for some wheelin friends.

Next weekend I check out one of the local tech schools. After that I will have more of an idea of my schedule.
In the meanwhile my new axle shaft is on its way and I can make quick work of it.

I was really worried about getting my Texas license plates.
OrIginally the JIMMY was a diesel rig. in Cali it's still registered as a diesel which makes it SMOG exempt.
I stopped by one of the local inspection stations and the guy there said if it's an '82 it don't need an emissions check, just a safety inspection.
I asked him about my 1/2 doors and no side mirrors and he said it was no problem. All I need is a rear view mirror that can see for 250ft and workin horn and signals. I might be Texas legal.:woot::woot:

when I lived in Fort Worth I used to drive my 72 Blazer all over with 11" of lift and 39" TSL's and no top and no doors all over and never got stopped. cops would pull up beside me at stop lights and give me a thumb's up. :waytogo:

Thanks DIY4X

Thanks for the links Jeff. I will check out those spots soon.

I got some beef from DIY4X. Thanks Kert!:waytogo:

1- pinion guard. I need to protect my driveshaft and Yoke.

2- a clocking ring for my NP 208. It seems to get hung up on things so I'm gonna stuff it up.

3- anti wrap tabs. I don't like wheel hop or axle wrap. So I figured I'll build a traction bar.

208 clicking ring

I pulled the 208 today. When I removed the bottom bolt it started leaking pretty bad from the bolt hole. Is this normal is is something afoul?

With the 208 removed I start to work on the notch at the passenger side seat.

I gave it a few relief cuts and started pounding away. At this point I'm thinking I Oughtta cut the entire piece out.

Time for a test fit to check for clearence.

Right about meow I'm wishing I did more bench presses in high school. :doah:

just a few pictures of what you'll have to deal with, if you haven't seen them already. With a 1" body lift also

Every NP208 I've ever dealt with will pour fluid out of that bolt hole. Makes it impossible to fill the thing up with fluid while it's on the ground before you bolt it back up. ATF will also pour out of the rear slip yoke thing too.

As far as the bench presses, I've found it helpful if I can use my feet and knees to help me put the t-case in place. It's a little easier than just lifting up with your arms, especially when you're doing it repeatedly for test fits.

Thanks for the pics K85. What did you do with with the front driveshaft?

:popcorn:I will be doing the same thing this summer. How much did you clock it?

I am using Kerts DIY4x clocking ring. I am rotating it one position. That should be plenty of room for my application.

In the pic above the clicking ring is attached. What I mean by 1 position is counterclockwise from the black bolt to the next hole.

As for the bench presses yes, I used my legs and knees to get it in position and then support it with a jack stand.
I still have a killer kink in my neck and what feels like lockjaw from straining. :doah:
