‘82 GMC “Junkyard JIMMY” {Build bash Rebuild}

Taking the packs apart is the only way to do it. I know it's a pain but will save you in the long run. Cycle cycle cycle

And @Deuling your bumps definitely bottomed out, just nothing else did. Lol

It's not the first time and it won't be the last. Lol

I know you're right.

I actually hooked the winch up to the axle and tried to compress it down.

All it did was get the synthetic rope pinched down between itself and I couldn't pull it back out.

I had to unwind it all and practice a 100' long self street recovery with the towyota. (Wind it all back up tight).

When I set up the stops I'll take the pack apart and set it up at full smashy mode.

HAhahaha.

I am picturing you doing karate moves as you wind the cable back up.

Side note. When you weld the cans to the frame. Stay on the back side of the center line of the tubes with any weld. And shove a screw driver in to pry them open a little bit.

My front ones are almost impossible to get the bump stops in/out of because I welded on the cans too far on the front...

Good tip Deuding!

After another trip down to the car wash and $10 later I came home with a workable surface.

So I finished up the last 2 cage tie-ins.

I ditched the Deuling Deaign double welds and just burned it right to the frame.

There's not much real estate in that B pillar area to tie the cage in so I decided to just keep it simple.

That's the exact spot I tied in my b pillar. Yeah no room for the plate lol

I pooped a little. Thought you were talking about the Jimmy.

But it does suck about the trailer. Any leads?

No leads.

I left town Sunday, had a bad feeling because I saw a dude checking it out a few days before.
Almost took his tag # but didn't.

Put the lock on the hitch and kissed it goodbye.

Got home the following Sunday and it was gone.

My landscaper said it was gone on Thursday 6pm when he worked.

I asked all the neighbors with security cameras to check their footage, no replays.

Insurance said they won't cover it. Fine print in the renters insurance doesn't cover street legal trailers.

I was checking out my steering setup and didn't like the amount of slop I had where this TRE connects to the pitman arm.
This is a junkyard XJ pitman arm.to be completely honest, I messed up when I reamed it out for the GM TRE. I dug too deep because I used a drag link to check it instead of the TRE. When I installed the TRE it would sit too deep and the cotter pin hole was above the castle nut.

I dropped a center line and took some reference measurements to be back to center.

I grabbed some scrap metal and made my pitman arm double sheer and boxed to receive the heim joint.

Blue sharpie pic.

To correct the taper for the TRE in the pitman arm I drilled it out and inserted a 3/4" spacer to receive a 5/8" bolt.

The TRE was 2.5" below the bottom of the pitman arm.
The bottom of the tab is about 2.25" so I didn't really loose any space.
