Diesel actually does a better job of displacing the oxygenJust remember to fill it with fresh gas first so it displaces all the oxygen and gives you a good weld penetration.
This tank is not getting fixed. They are $82 my cost at work. Was just messing with @FastereddieWe used to neutralize them with exhaust.... run a hose into it and it'll displace the vapor. Pops fixed a ton of them that way, but i would drill a hole in it, get a penny, and solder it rather than try and weld it.
